The first OU QB of my childhood that I can remember.....and grew up wanting to run the wishbone just like him. Huge loss but no doubt he's in a better place now. RIP Steve!

It has been tragic for Sooner fans and family off the field the last few years with the way too early passings of some of the greatest Sooners off all time; Lee Roy Selmon, Jack Mildren, Daryl Hunt, Rick Bryan, Waymon Tisdale, Brandon Everage, Austin Box, Greg Goodhue (All American Gymnast) and now Steve Davis. Also some of the old timers like Tubbs, Royal and Harris

Soonerfans and players are due some good fortune

I was Minister of Music and Youth at Walters,Ok, First Baptist Church in the early 70's. Steve was quarterback at that time at OU. We had special day at the church and I invited Steve to come and speak. He flew down that morning and landed at a small air strip just off the H. E Baily Turnpike at the Walters Exit. It had been raining and Steve stepped in mud ankle deep getting to my car. He pulled his shoes off and spoke in his bare feet. I can't remember the whole story, but for some reason, no one from the University knew where he was, but a friend died and he called the church to try to locate Steve. All in all I remember it being a great day

A few years ago, my husband and I went to a signing of four OU quarterbacks, Steve Davis among the four. Not sure where we were going we went into the main lobby of the Biltmore to find out where to go. Coming in behind us was Steve Davis, who I recognized immediately. We were all told where to go for the signing and Steve walked with us, acting more like a fan than one of the objects of the signing. He was so gracious and humble just chatting with us, and when I told him my husband was the fan, but I was the fanatic, he laughed and said he understood that. In the next few years I would see Steve again at football games and basketball games, and he always remembered me from that first meeting. The last time I saw him was last basketball season, he and Little Joe were leaving early from a basketball game, and they both stopped and chatted for a bit. Such a tragic loss, He will be missed.
