The old Big 12 needed better balance. The South totally dominated conference play...and Big 12 titles, after Obourne left and again when Snyder left. Had Dr. Tom and Snyder stayed, maybe the North could have held up its end of the deal. So, the conference was spiraling downward even before Nebraska and Colorado left. When UT collapsed, Leach left, and A$M bolted (especially when it finally got itself a real coach), the South took a few punches. Only OSU and BU proved to be decent pinch hitters. But was it because they had stepped up their programs or was it because the big dogs on the conference were playing a step below previous years when the competition was much greater? Too bad OSU didn't get to play Alabama 2 years ago for the NC....we would have found something out about the Big 12. Until a Big 12 team takes down an SEC giant the conference will struggle with image and unless it can beat a B1G 10 champ or PAC 12 champ it will be a mid major.

We can thank Texas for Nebraska leaving. And OU as well. There was a power struggle between Texas and Nebraska dating back to the start of the Big 12, and Texas--with OU's loyal support--finally won.

Frankly, I'd be happier if Nebraska had stayed and Texas had bolted. Then the Big 12 would be a conference of near-equals rather than a conference with one big dog, on medium-sized dog who serves as the big dog's enforcer, and a bunch of little dogs cowering in the corner.

This is what happens when you play like a Big East or MAC team you get treated like a Big East or MAC team. In fact the Big XII may start playing all its games on Thursday and Friday night since they cannot compete with the SEC. The Big XII is the new Big East. If Bob Stoops wants to avoid playing on Thursday night he had better start putting a better quality product on the field.
