Interesting...you should have scoped out the changes for Bob Stoops since 2000. There have been several changes over that span, too. And though not public firings, I assume some coaches were encouraged to "move up." Even if the new job didn't show much promise for success.

Obviously, something really went wrong in 1977 on Switzer's staff. I looked at the number of L-Ts from 1973 through 1977: 5 Losses, 1 Tie. From 1978-1984: 18 Losses, 2 Ties. Looking at the losses, reminds me a lot of the kinds of bad losses (if there is such a thing) of the last 4 years under Stoops. Switzer got the train back on the track from 1985-1987...and who knows what OU would have done had he not been forced out in 1988. Even Barry had some tough losses to "big" teams outside the Big 8 during the 80s....the same knock on Bob Stoops....maybe it just gets harder to get recruits to Norman....which I absolutely love ...but 18-19 year old recruits often are looking at other things, beside coaches. The new dorms have to be a huge attraction for incoming freshmen, but...OU may need some additional help either from the Sooner community, or facility upgrades. The Thunder in OKC and the growth of OKC has to be a big plus for some recruits. When most of the top recruits are going to the SEC for "football," other teams have to have something additional to sell to the recruit...and obviously it has to be legal....
