Florida State and Clemson would be great additions. SMU and Houston would add some recruiting values, but not much of an increase! Financially FSU & Clemson would add more dollars to the Big 12 and increase our recruiting area. What wrong with Arkansas and someone like Old Miss? If we expand we should add at least one super competitive team! Still love everything Boone has done for OSU.

Good point. ESPN and Fox can make more money if the Big 12 expands to back east. But since Boone wants regionally local teams added to the Big 12, it only proves the point that he wants what is better for the fans and athletes then what will make more money. It's not like Mr. Pickens is counting on making money on the Big 12. If the TV money wins out and we add FSU and Clemson, it will all work out. He is just speaking his mind. It will all work out for the best and OSU will be right there competing for the championship either way. I do agree that we need to grow to12 teams at least to keep up with the SEC and Big 10. Lets just be careful who we add.

You may be right Travis, why would Mr. Pickens choose SMU and Houston
over FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville,...lets throw in Miami, Cinncinati? Those schools back east are all better than SMU and Houston right now. It all comes down to travel costs. Not just the money, but the wear and tear on the college athlete. These young men are going to school to get an education, very few of them will make a living in professional sports. If they are flying back east every other week, that puts them behind in the classroom.

If the addition of West Virginia to the Big 12 works out and the long air travel is ok for the athletes, then you may be right. I think Boone believes that the closer the teams are geographically, the better. Boone knows that getting a college degree is the main goal along with getting the most fans in the stadiums. He thinks SMU and Houston will grow into the Big 12.

Crimson Jihad? Never heard of him.

Before I would comment on what Boone thinks should happen to the Big12, It would be nice to hear his Long Term Reasoning why he thinks Houston and SMU would be great additions rather than FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Va.T, Kentucky and Louisville etc. Unless Crimson Jihad is the alias for Warren Buffet, I think he should consider having a nicer approach when critical of his Oklahoma Cousins.

T-bone needs to stick to oil. It can't lose. An athletice conference comprised of mostly teams from Texas can. The Southwest Confernce had SMU and Houston and it went belly-up because no one outside the state of Texas gave a damn about it and it died on the vine. Houston Cougars and SMU Mustangs don't have what it takes to replace Texas A&M and Nebraska, not to mention Mizzou. A 10 team conference is a loser when held to a 12, 14 or even 16 team conference. With the exception of Texas and Oklahoma, the cream has been skimmed off the Big -12, and with no playoff in football, it's sinking farther and farther behind. Thanks Wallflower Boron the Moron for signing away our media rights. You should be tarred and feathered. I'm not paying $1,000 for a pair of season tickets for the dog home schedule OU has coming up this year. Even if the conference added SMU and Houston, that doesn't sweeten the deal. That's more dogs on the schedule. T-bone, shut up.

Growing up in the DFW area I don't know that SMU will ever step into a conference with Texas again, even if it would benefit them in the long run. They still hold a grudge over what happed with the NCAA violation and death penalty. Besides we already have a better team in TCU for the DFW market. I do agree with bring in Houston to get us back into their market and BYU for a larger fanbase and athletic chops.

Mr. Pickens has picked it right his whole life, how do you think he got to where he is now? He started from scratch with nothing and he has built a successful business over 50 years. He gave millions of his hard earned money to his college and we are forever grateful. Without Boone Pickens, OSU would be...well I can't imagine where we would be, but it wouldn't be where we are now.
I know the big TV money is on the east coast, but if 5 years from now, and all the seats are empty, and all the fans are complaining about not being able to afford to go see a game in Florida, maybe they will say we should have gone with SMU and Houston.
Maybe if we add these 2 teams to an already great conference, they will grow and expand their stadiums, and after the same 5 years, with the stadiums packed,it will have been the right choice?
I think Boone knows what he is talking about. He always has before.

I believe that adding GaTech (Atlanta), Clemson (Carolinas) and FSU (Florida) gives the Big 12 more competitive edge than adding University of Houston (Houston) and SMU (Dallas).

Of course, the OSU fans and potential recruits in the Houston/Dallas metro areas are probably more beneficial to the local success of OSU and the Big 12, but I see more of an impact stretching our influence into the now dominant SEC.

Texas A&M, Ole Miss and MSU's recent surge in recruiting has proven that the SEC has a huge draw over our local talent.
Still, the DFW and Houston markets cannot be overlooked by any means.

If the SEC is the biggest threat to the Big XII, then the best options for expansion depends on whether the ACC can be raided.
ACC teams available:
to go to 12: FSU & Clemson
to go to 14: FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, BYU
without ACC teams:
to go to 12: BYU & USF (for a presence in Florida's growing population, foodball fandom, and fertile recruiting ground)
to go to 14: BYU, USF, Southern Mississippi, and Lousiana Tech?
