McClendon treated Chesapeake like it was his private investment bank. I expect Chesapeake will pull back from any association with McClendon and that includes anything to do with the Thunder. I also expect McClendon to have to sell his portion of the team to raise cash to pay the many fines and penalties that will be leveled against him by numerous federal and state agencies. He should probably cash out anything he has and move to the Cayman Islands...they don't have an extradition treaty with the US.

[...] Berry Tramel on Aubrey McClendon: “Will Chesapeake’s sponsorship of the Thunder be reduced with McClendon gone? Not for awhile. The sponsorship contracts are long-term — with another 7-8 years remaining. And I would doubt Chesapeake’s history of community support would wither. It has a long and proud history. The company surely doesn’t want that reputation to die. And new Chesapeake chairman Archie Dunham is an Oklahoman who has talked about how important the company is to the city and the state. Dunham also stressed that Chesapeake is not for sale. The sale of Chesapeake would be disastrous news for OKC, much less the Thunder.” [...]

I believe that if the Thunder goes deep in the playoffs, hopefully to the Finals, it will move OKC past a tipping point for national recognition.

I work for a global company and talk to employees and clients from everywhere. The last two years, I've noticed things like "...you're from Oklahoma City? Sure like the Thunder" coming much more frequently.

Another postseason run like last year...it's Cheers time; everybody knows our name.
