Had the Big 12 been able to look past football and gone after Louisville and Kentucky (both wanted to come) they would have one heck of a basketball conference and with Louisville another great football team as it turns out. Not much left out there now.

Great observation!

The conference of our past, the Big 8, is gone. The Big 12 isn't even what it once was.

Conference realignment in football is weird, but we're adjusting to it. Basketball is when conference realignment looks really strange. A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday, Nebraska played Penn State and Missouri played Ole Miss. For those of us raised on the Saturday Big 8 game of the week, that's a crime. Nebraska should have been playing Iowa State and Missouri should have been playing Kansas State (for examples).

It's a shame that the pursuit of football TV dollars has impacted schools like this. But, this is the 21st century, and the Big 8 isn't coming back. The Big 12 isn't even going to be what it once was.
