Would you leave a “Bird Nest on The Ground” to take on the responsibility of a head coach. Thats the question, and like Venables, Norvell & Heupel will be there sucking on the Stoops sugar teat until he wakes up, again, and makes them finally leave, like Venables, and in the mean time it will be another cover job for # of seasons. Lee-You seem to be basing OU’s 2012 signing class thus far on the amount of stars assigned by Rivals and Scout. It takes coaching to make a good player great. Look at all the 5 star players USC has on their roster now. Look at the classes recently at Texas and Florida State. I would say they aren’t getting their monies worth out of their coaching staffs. OU gets more out of their players than most programs. That’s due to good coaching.

Barry, you touched on it but didn’t carry it far enough. This ia about family. Josh Heupel is family to David & Molly Boren. David Boren will be president at OU until he has to carried out of his office. That means that Boren will do everything possible to keep Heupel in place where he is and, if Bob Stoops moves on, to elevate him to head coach whether it is deserved or not. Again, this is about family.

All of the coaches lost at OU the past 10 yrs. has contributed to (what will be) the worst signing class in the Stoops era. Man for man, our guys are now a notch below Alabama, USC, Ohio St, Florida, ND, etc. Sort of glad he stayed…

Has anybody every heard Josh Heupel speak in an interview? B-O-R-I-N-G. Does anybody think he can be the type of motivator it takes to be a successful coach a at a big time program? Reminds me of Gary Gibbs: top notch assistant coach that does not have the communication skills to succeed as head coach. When Stoops retires, go after Kevin Sumlin.

Also Josh would have to fill out a staff. I might be hard for a young coach to know enough people and convince them to taking a job at La Tech

I just dont think that Louisiana Tech is a coaching feeder school for Arkansas…..Auburn maybe, Ole Miss- sure..but Arkansas has always had more money than most places and doubtfully would pluck an up and comer in any sport.

When Snyder retires he has a designated replacement already. That is his son. He has stated many times when he does retire…or die he wants his son to be named head coach. With what he has done there he has earned that right. If his son doesn’t work out in two to three years then they can bring in someone else. Does KState really want to alienate Bill Snyder? I don’t think so. They may need to bring him back out of retirement when he is 100 to lead the program back…again.

I think Heupel is content. As far as when Snyder retires I would think Venables would be the Mike Gundy of Kansas State.

Josh, shouldn’t take a job for taking a job’s sake. Most OU assistants generally leave for a major conference gig, not some mid-major HC position. With a few exceptions, most big time(FLA,Bama,USC) programs assistants leave for these quality deals . Just because OSU’s assistants leave for mid-major jobs doesn’t necessarily make it a ‘head coach factory’. When Josh does leave it most likely be to a major conference job. I can almost guarantee Bob was offered several mid major jobs before he left for Norman…
