Don, you don’t think the coach has ANYTHING to do with a team’s success?? It you really mean that, you are dumb as a post. USM had 13 of their 22 starters returning from a 12-2 season, and went 0-12…!! Many of the same players, yet a 24 game turnaround? That’s coaching failure, not player failure, my friend. You think Ellis Johnson would have had 12 wins the year before?? Maybe 5 or 6, max. He clearly had NO CLUE how to succeed as a head coach. I’d be willing to bet Todd Monken will have USM bowl eligible next year.

sounds like a nice trade-off for the USM fan base….if that happens it means we are winning C-USA and moving up. See all the other MAC/Sun-belt/MWC/WAC schools this year who’s teams did good, got ranked…now they are getting picked up by AQ-schools….Todd Monken is trying to do the same thing here (as Larry Fedora did), nothing wrong w/ that. SMTTT!

@Don: a no-where job? Don’t tell that to Larry Fedora, Okie State’s previous OC…he’s now the HC at UNC.

Jeff Bowers??? Shows how much you know about USM. It’s Jeff BOWER. Fire the AD?? Are you serious? Our AD is getting us out of this financial hole that our previous AD Giannincompoop left us in. Our new AD hire Donnie Tyndall who is turning out to be a great bball coach. Our new AD has now hired Todd Monken who is gonna take USM back to winning C-USA.

And BTW, Jeff BOWER (not Bowers) is happy retired, playing golf and having no hard feelings towards USM.

In regards to the article, it’s a well-written article that is fair. We are a stepping stone job…coaches can come here, win 10+ games and/or a conference championship and you are GAURANTEED to get offered a HC position somewhere in the SEC/ACC/Big12…

Under the coaching of Jeff Bowers this was one of the best football programs in the South. All the SEC schools were affraid to play Southern. Where is Jeff now. Fire the AD and hire Bowers AD.

That is a no where job in my opinion,all these coaches think that it is them that create the success,IT IS ALWAYS WHAT KIND OF PLAYERS YOU HAVE !
