A gun unless it goes off by itself and hits someone can not hurt anyone. It takes a person pulling the trigger to shoot someone. Most people would never kill another person except perhaps in self defense. So why should the MAJORITY have to loss right because of what a few idiots and “sick” people do. That is not what this country was founded for and on. I think we should outlaw all forms of tranportation since there are far more people that die from auto/train/plane and boat crashes everyday than gun violence. Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?

I totally agree with your assertion that Costas and the general discourse missed the point of this tragedy. Taking it a step further… A murder suicide conducted in the fashion it was conducted in moves beyond emotional problem and into mental health problem.

The problem is partly political. Some people will jump on any chance to exploit an incident in order to advance their cause (gun control) whether it is justified in each case or not. I even heard one media account attempting to somehow tie the incident to race. Talk about politicizing the issue.
