Since when does the BCS care about its own rules? According to its own rules, Boise State was entitled to a major bowl game last year, but did not get one. And, don't tell me Boise State chose to play in the Las Vegas Bowl. They were muscled out by money and back room politics. I think the reason Northern Illinois is in the Orange Bowl is because the head of their University happens to sit on the BCS oversight committee. What we need are clear, fair rules that force the blatantly corrupt folks that call the shots in the BCS system to adhere to them. I mean, come on, Northern Illinois???...Louiville???...This is unfair to a great sport like college football and to all the young athletes who have acually earned a spot in a major bowl. Last year, I could never have imagined that the BCS could stink things up any worse, but they have outdone even themselves. These corrupt folks are hurting good kids, and they need to be stopped...now!

Remember in the system to replace the BCS? If that were in place this year OU would drop to the Alamo Bowl.
Playoff Bowls-Notre Dame vs Oregon (Fiesta)
              Alabama vs Florida (Chick-fil-A)
              KState vs LSU (Sugar)
FSU vs Northern Illinois (Oranage) Northern Illinois still gets in because a slot is reserved for the top rated team from a conference without an tie to a bowl for the conference champion. FSU as ACC Champion
              Wisconsin vs Stanford (Rose)
              Texas A&M vs Georgia (Cotton)
Remember no limit to teams from one conference. So, how would that look to you? Basically to get into one of the Major Bowls you will have to win your conference or be in the SEC.

The bottom line is the BCS sucks and the rankings suck more!!! Both NIU and Kent were vastly overated. The big schools are being penalized in the rankings for losing games to good teams while those teams are shooting up the charts by beating nobody. The compined record of the teams NIU beat is 58 wins 103 losses. They beat 4 teams that finished 1-11 & 3 teams that finished 2-10. They beat 3 teams with a winning record, Ball State & Kent State who got their winning record by beating the same crappy teams in the same crappy conference and Tenneesee-Martin. Really, Tennessee Martin. I quess that was their quality win or maybe it was Kansas. For these teams to be ranked anywhere near the top 25 is really sad and speaks to how far the great college football game has fallen. Before the evil ESPN was around to hype the "little schools" this would have never happened. the top 25 at least resembled a true top 25. Not anymore. Its all about the hype. BTW, I am glad OU will be playing Texas A&M. Great game whereever it is played...Boomer Sooner

I have never commented before, but Tramel's misinformation must be corrected. Under the current rules, Tamu can't go to a BCS bowl because the SEC already has two teams going to the BCS, and a conference can't have three. That makes OU the 10th team and Sugar Bowl bound except for NIU.

Todd, Wisconsin and Louisville got in not because of their ranking but because they on their conference. They could have been ranked #120 and still got in. Not so for NIU. No way is NIU the 15th best team in the country. Ditto for Kent State. The voters are not doing their job.

NIU beat NOBODY WORTH A DARN !!!! At least Boise State beat a ranked Pac10 school when they beat OU

LXXIV, I disagree. Here's something you're missing. The rankings are based on two separate human polls + computer algorithm averages, all averaged out. NIU is 12-1. They're one of the most winningest teams in college football, from a conference that beat the Big East pretty well.

Think NIU's overrated? If you're arguing for the best ranked teams to get in, how about unranked Wisconsin? Or how about #21 Louisville from the Big Least? Remember, (11-1) Kent State handily beat Rutgers, (9-3) Toledo beat Cincinati, (9-3) Ball State beat South Florida (and Indy), and (4-8) Western Michigan beat UCONN. It'd be foolish to say NIU is worse than Louisville given that and all the rankings put them SOLIDLY above Louisville.

The "NIU rule" actually makes it so a BETTER ranked team gets in, not a lower ranked team. Your problem SHOULD BE that they should REPLACE #21 Louisville or UNRANKED Wisconsin.

Have a beef with Oklahoma not getting in? Don't blame NIU. Blame the two SOLIDLY LESSER RANKED teams who got in.
