To those like Tim who say the BCS Bowl matchups are about how OU was rated by the pollsters. Not so. No matter how high in the polls OU was rated the only team OU could have replaced in a BCS Bowl was Oregon. BCS Championship-Notre Dame vs Alabama (BCS 1-BCS 2), Rose Bowl-Wisconsin vs Stanform (Big 10 champion vs Pac 12 Champion), Sugar Bowl-Florida vs Louisville (Florida gets an automatic invite to a BCS bowl because they finished in the top 4 and were not a Conference Champion and Louisville is Big East Champion), and Orange Bowl-FSU vs Northern Illinois (FSU is ACC Champion and Northern Illinois is the MAC Champion and finished at BCS ranking at least 16 and above the Big 10 and Big East Champion). Fiesta-KState vs Oregon (KState Big XII Champion and Oregon an at large pick) The only team in any BCS Bowl without an automatic invitation is Oregon. A one loss Oregon would always get in before a two loss OU. So, even if OU were rated 5th or 6th it would not have mattered. It isn't were OU finished it is were Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Louisville finished. But for those who are looking forward to the new system, remember there will be no limit on the number of SEC teams who can get in. Once that happens the chances of any non-conference champion from the Big XII beating out a one or two loss SEC team are slim and none. The SEC teams Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, and South Carolina would have all been selected for bowls above OU. That would have pushed OU to the Alamo Bowl.

Back to the human polls...what was behind some of the positioning of teams? Some analysis should be done. The PAC-12 got 2 teams in BCS bowls - Stanford and Oregon. The SEC got 2 teams in BCS bowls - Alabama and Florida (who barely escaped La Tech). The Big 10 had a down year...it's conference champ has 5 losses...but had Ohio St. been eligible, this whole bowl picture would be very different. The ACC got one team in, and the Big Least got one team in, and the Big 12 got one team in...in spite of the fact it had co-champs. KSU is most deserving of the Fiesta. OU failed. To take care of business. But on the other hand, OU played the 5th toughest schedule in the country and is a conference champion. November was as rough a stretch for OU as Bloody October in 2000. They were going to make or break their season in that month and though games were close, we aren't playing horseshoes. They won..just like so many other teams who squeaked out wins...like ND.

Here is my point....OU got no love for the teams they beat in Nov./Dec. They even fell a spot before beating TCU. NIU jumps 5 spots by winning in OT against Kent St. The computer polls had NIU at #19. The human pols had them at #12? Really? #12? does someone have an agenda? Who might that be and why? Had NIU NOT gone up to #16, OU is Sugar bound. The Big 12 would have had 2 teams in BCS bowls. So what was there to gain by keeping OU out and by whom?

First of all the money that conferences receive from the bowl game...secondly, recruiting issues... thirdly, who would Florida rather play Louisville or OU?

The losers are fans and the folks that run the bowls and ESPN. Two of the 5 BCS bowls are jokes...3 if you count the Rose with 5 loss Wisconsin..which has a lock between CHAMPIONS of the 2 conferences. True OU is a co-champ and KSU should go to the Fiesta. But at Big 12 Co-champ being left out for a MAC Champ whose schedule was #124? How in the heck did NIU jump 5 spots? How and why did the human polls have them ranked #12? One spot below OU? A couple of spots below the highly respected SEC teams? REALLY? What was behind the human polls?

NIU is a nice team but moving up 5 spots by winning an overtime game? If they had hammered Kent State perhaps, but no way this was square. On the other side OU has been the beneficiary of the BCS in the past, so can't complain at all. OSU got absolutely flushed by the bowls or the conference or both. If they can get over the dissappointment (which they didn't do so well this weekpost OU)I expect thay'll hang at least 70 on Purdue. Pinnball scoreboard, they'll ned to get a permit for the lights going off. Boomer!
