Seems to me the problem is once again the human polls. There are no human polls in the NFL playoff system...just data driven results. There are strong and weak divisions in the NFL.... Wild cards allow slow starters an opportunity to recover and keeps the season interesting. Until we throw out human polls, just crown an SEC team as the NC.

Tim....OU could more easily be 7-5 than 12-0. They came closer to losing the last three weeks than they did in winning against KState or Notre Dame. Also, the rules are the rules. A conference winner who finishes in the top 16 in the BCS and ahead of an AQ conference champion is in. That is the rule. There is also a rule only 2 teams from the same conference can be in a BCS bowl. Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina are also rated above Northern Illinois but they didn't get a BCS bid either. The reason OU didn't get a BCS bid is because we didn't win the conference. That is it. You combine that with finally Notre Dame is in a BCS bowl (One at large taken) and the Big East stinks more than usual (a mid major is rated above the least bad of the Big East teams) and there just aren't enough at large BCS berths available. Only two and those were always going to go to Florida and Oregon. So, the reason OU isn't in a BCS game is because of OU losing to KState not because of Northern Illinois. It is time for people to assume responsibility for their actions. Lose and it is your own fault...not the other team for winning. Just be thankful for the Cotton Bowl. In a couple of more years OU won't even have that. Remember one change to the system is no limit to the number of teams in the qualifying bowls. So if it is like this year Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, and Texas A&M will take half of the bowl slots open in the new 6 bowl system. Stanford and Wisconsin would take two others. FSU, KState and Notre Dame would each take one. Also, the highest rated conference champion from a conference without a bowl tie-in would get one, Northern Illinois. That is all the slots for the top 6 bowls. Both a one loss Oregon and a 2 loss Oklahoma would be left out. Welcome to the new SEC playoff system.

By the way...CONGRATS to the OU players and coaches....a 10-2 finish to the regular season is nothing to hang your head about. Many Sooners felt that a 4 or 5 loss season loomed ahead when the calendar flipped to October. Great recovery! I know you wish you had the last 5 minutes of the KSU and ND games back...but, you became a better and tougher team for the experiences, both on and off the field...the media and fans did a number on you guys and you shut that out and stayed focused, disciplined, and showed great maturity in how you handled adversity. You have character and integrity and nothing or no one can take that from you. Thanks for one of the most exciting seasons of Sooner football, ever. I think I need a pacemaker, now! Keep the faith and BEAT the AGGIES!

Berry, the real point about the Northern Illinois fiasco isn't whether OU got jobbed. It's that college football fans everywhere got jobbed. Any of those SEC team you mentioned would have been worthy choices if OU couldn't go. ANYBODY but Northern Illinois. Nobody wants to see that. The liberal Robin Hood mentality is even taking over sports now.

Still say just award the top 14 spots to the SEC and all the Olivers will take the gruel that no one wants....OU lost to #1 and #5. They were in each game down to the last 5 minutes or so. Had OU won just one of those games, it quite possibly could be playing in the NC or BCS. Who's to say that LSU, Ga, Fla, or SC are better than OU....sports writers with an SEC bias? How many of this year's bowl games provide a real match for SEC teams? I know OU's D gave up a ton of points and yards to WVU, BU, and OSU. but who in the SEC has that kind of offensive talent? Oh, yes, the SEC has great defense, well.....didn't look that way in the SEC Championship game. Maybe the "power offenses" really make their defense look better than they are. Alabama is not as good as last year. FLorida is not as good as the team that beat OU in 2008. LSU has no offense, but its defense forgets to show up occasionally, too...though I think they may have the best SEC defense. OU isn't as good as it was in 2008 either. The point is these are all teams with 2 losses and the only one that is a conference champ is OU....who lost to #1 and #5. 6 of the top 10 are SEC schools and their rankings seem to be based on how they played Alabama and who they lost to. And the real question is really how good is Alabama? Georgia showed us, not that good. A$M proved that Bama has problems with a running and throwing QB....guess what? ND has one and he is good. So, all this stuff that places 2 loss teams above OU who has two losses that are better losses than the other 2 loss teams is crap. SEC bias proven...doubters watch the bowl games. A$M Is more than likely the best in the SEC and if they played FLA or LSU, would win in a rematch. Johnny Football has gotten better since those games. So, big power offenses and stacked defenses in the SEC, beware, your days are numbered Sumlin's Aggies are about to take control....I just hope OU is up to the task....it won't be easy....the AGGS beat Alabama...a new day dawned in the SEC.

Texas beat OSU straight up? With all due respect, Tram, that game was one call away from going the other way. Now, OSU should have made the stops to keep the refs from deciding the game, but the refs DID decide the game and OSU and Texas should be reversed record-wise.
