My choice would be Houston. It is the only area that is a part of both the Big XII and the SEC. Plus it would create a new bowl not tied to either league. But, this was a matter of pride and prestige to the SEC to dictate to another league and show everyone who the real power in college football is. A VERY bad move for the Big XII. Why not just call yourself the little SEC or the SEC Minor League. No way should the commissioner of one conference call the other other conference the best in college football...even though it is. More often than not LSU will be the home team for the new bowl. Alabama will get the invitation to the playoff and LSU will go the Sugar Bowl. I guess Big XII fans will at least get to party on New Years Eve in New Orleans before the team gets killed on New Years Night. That was probably the main consideration. The Cotton Bowl is always a late morning start and most fans wouldn't be in condition to watch the game anyway.

This doesn't seem like that bad of deal for the Big 12. New Orleans is a good city to travel to, and the stadium is downtown instead of way out in the suburbs like in Dallas. Look at the Rose Bowl. The closest Big Ten school to Pasadena is almost 1500 miles away, while USC and UCLA are both right next door. You'd have to figure USC has a decent chance of playing in the Rose in future years.

@Jerry
There are two advantages that New Orleans holds over Dallas. The first is that everything is centrally located, so transportation is not an issue and the hotels are closer to the game and the city's attractions. Jerry World is nowhere near the area where most visitors will be staying and spending time.

The second is that one of the two (New Orleans) actually had an association with hosting one of the league's champion.

Plus, I like Dallas, but to be honest I'd rather go to a bowl game in New Orleans (as long as we're not playing LSU).

New Orleans is about as neutral as its going to get.it is pretty much smack in the middle between the SEC footprint and the Big 12 footprint.So LSU may get a home game.Oh well.The Texas schools get a virtual home game in the Cotton Bowl.Whats the point of this article?Of course the SEC holds the cards,but we are far from being screwed.?a prime time 80million dollar bowl game.lol gtfoh

In the partnership between the Big XII and the SEC it is very easy to see who is the senior partner and who is the junior partner. That comes from winning championships. Something the SEC does on a regular basis and something the Big XII does on occasions. I really think the whole thing should have been shelved when the Rose Bowl, Big 10 and PAC 12 agreed to the new playoff system. Does anyone really believe the Champions Bowl will ever host the Champions of the Big XII and SEC? Again, ESPN wins, the SEC wins and everyone else loses. How is New Orleans better for transportation and hotel space than Dallas? How is it easier to travel in and out of the New Orleans airport than DFW? How is the Super Dome a better facility than Jerry Jones Stadium? Everything says Dallas is the better choice except that the SEC wanted to keep their game in New Orleans. So the Big XII said since you rule you make the rules.

We have to either out up or shut up. Going to play in the enemy's lair will make the Big 12 a tougher conference over time. Once we give them a few well deserved beat downs, we can talk about the BIG 12 being the 'elite' conference. In the meantime we can open the pipeline for recruiting.
