I think the whole thing is kind of silly, whether it’s the horns down or the OU sucks chant. I really wish we didn’t do that, at least until we won some more games.

But, if we’re going to get called for it then so should everybody else — or we should not have the penalty any more.

Chuck – an OSU fan calling OU obsessive about another team – now THAT’S rich. I seem to recall seniors at OSU getting the OU-OSU football score on their class rings, because they had finally beat those “gooners.” You make and break your season by a win over OU, as infrequently as that is. If you guys were any more obsessive about OU, Stoops would have to take out a restraining order on the entire Ok State fan base.

ugh, I actually agree with Trams… to add, horns down is no more disrespectful than when playing the texass fight song and chanting OU sux everytime they manage to score against the Sooners. Found it pretty humerous when they were still doing that this year, down by half a hundred.

The article is right, Texas always wants more More MORE, and are the reason A&M, Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri left the conference.

Take a look at the field in Austin. Where EVERY other school paints the Big 12 logo in its normal form on their field, Roma numals XII with “Big 12 Conference” superimposed, the logo on the UT field has the Roman numerals XII with “TEXAS” on top. To me, this is FAR more disrespectful to the entire conference than a silly hand gesture. The extended middle finger is one thing, but a droopy set of horns is quite another.

D-Lowe? Did I miss something? Did he do that? Because I’ve been a lifelong Poke fan, (& alum), and going to games for 39 yrs & have never seen an oSu fan or player doing this. It’s exclusively an OU thing by my observation. OU hates UT to the point of obsession. OSU can’t relate. They’re just another fow. I will say, as an Arkansas fan/alum as well, that Hogs & fans share the same hate and downward horn sign with the Sooners, but hey, they played for 3+ decades in the SWC as the only non-Texas member.

I had trouble reading the remainder of this article after I saw, “Finally, threw(?) ESPN maneuvering,” Isn’t it “through”? That error jumped out at me more than some of the UT fans who stick the horns sign in your face, and don’t expect some type of retaliation. I remember when OU played Florida in the NC game, Mr. Tim Tebow, of all players, did the gator chomp right in the face of an OU defensive player after Tebow had picked up a crucial 3rd down. But wait……that’s the SEC…..no Longhorn Network there.

The horns down sign is actually kind of self-demeaning. It implies that Texas is the Big 12′s standard bearer. After all, you won’t see any Texas fans making an inverted “O U” (as awkward as that might be).

As an FSU fan, I refuse to mock the gator chop for this reason. In the 1990′s, I hated bumper stickers that said: “Florida State University is THE University of Florida.” It implies that UF is somehow the flagship institution–something I refuse to concede to them.

Develop your own signature gesture, or hold up your index finger. You don’t have to mock another team’s gesture.

He was probably responding to the 15 yd unsportsmanlike like penalty given Mike Davis after putting “guns down” in the holsters in Lubbock after long TD catch. Same thing as “horns down”. Inconsistently called. Both unsporting.
