Very nice article. Coach Waldorf really contributed at K-State, being the ONLY coach other than Coach Snyder to lead the university’s football program to a title. As another person commenting wrote, UC Berkeley has a statue of him, a nice one in a peaceful location on the campus. A great coach. Thanks for the very well-done article.

Thanks for mentioning something I find interesting. I keep hearing about how difficult it is for teams traveling such as going to West Virginia. Think about that 1928 season you mentioned: at Creighton, at Marquette, at West Virginia. Think about those bus rides over the roads back then.

Thanks for a very good article about Pappy Waldorf. I well remember Jim Lookabaugh era, and was in the same grade school with his youngest son, also named Jim, although his nickname to his friends was “Sugar”…I never knew why! I am quite familiar with the Waldorf era at OAMC, it was the only period when the Cowboys dominated the Sooners over a sustained period of time. Still waiting for that to happen again!

Thanks Barry, he is often forgotten, but he was one of the great coaches of the early 20th century.
