Jones needs time in the pocket to be effective, and this O line is not giving it to him. Scrap the four-wideout spread. Use the RBs to help against the pass rush and be safety valves in the flat. Run the ball, use shorter pass routes - whatever it takes to allow Jones to release the ball sooner and avoid sacks and fumbles.

This is going to have to have to be a run first offense to setup the pass, not vice versa. Coaches needs to work with what he CAN do, not with what they wish he could do.

Jay....it is later than you think. Against UTEP not much offense and very little defense against a sub par team. Florida A&M is a band school not a football school and doesn't count. Against KState we didn't give the game away KState took it away. Even without the turnovers we didn't look good. Poor throws behind the receivers. Thowing off the back foot. Leaving the pocket with happy feet. This will be the fourth game of his senior season. Does anyone think it will all come together for Landry now? He is what he is. A decent quarterback but not great on a team that is built to win only with a great quarterback. No running game to help him out. Very poor offensive line play. A defense that cannot stop the run or the pass and get a 3 and out when they have to. I hope OU wins out but even if they win out they will need KState to lose 2 games to win the Big XII. I think it is more likely that KState lose 2 games than OU win out. This is not a very good OU team. The best thing to do is just yell for OU at every game and hope we stay close in some games and beat Kansas.

I'm with you Jay. If LJ can't get the job done in Lubbock...and that means keeping the offense on the field and scoring either to build a good lead 14-17 points to take some pressure off of our thin defense, or grinding up the clock AND scoring to keep the defense off the field so they have legs in the 4th quarter....and we suffer the same results as we did with KSU, Bob will find himself at the fork in the road. There aren't many teams left on the schedule that we can beat with performances like UTEP and KSU if we don't change something. If the offense struggles to control the game, we simply don't have enough hosses on defense to play teams who can run and throw the ball for 4 quarters. Our D will be gassed in the 4th quarter. This season reminds me of 1999 in many ways.

It's early. I still think Landy can recover enough to have a successful season. We gave the game away to K State, it really shouldn't have been close. This is a huge week for the team. If we see similar results in Lubbock, I take it all back.

I don't think Landry Jones has arm trouble. I think it is head trouble. People need to remember how Landry Jones became the starting QB at OU. He didn't beat someone out for the job. He became the starting QB because Sam Bradford got hurt. That has to remain in the back of your mind. One good hit and your career is over. I think that is why Landry rushes throws and gets happy feet and quickly runs out of the pocket to try and escape the big hits. I think it is something he does without thinking about it. It also isn't that he isn't tough. It is something that is subconscious and he does because he can't help it.

I think Landry has a health issue. Either his shoulder or arm is bothering him. I remember last year, his best game was after an off week and he made a comment about needing the rest for his arm. I think he has been over worked trying to get on the same page with his new receivers. Jones has never been this inaccurate with his throws even as a freshmen. The Sooners are in trouble.

I dont understand how as a coach you can come out and publicly keep saying your Qb is by no means got to worry bout his job. These kids are always supposed to be competing to get better and better and Landry has just regressed. Cant understand why you dont get some real pressure on him and bring in Bell and show that poor performance can get you benched. We are a society most driven with our backs to the wall. Landry gets a pass for what? The sad part is the fans and the other 84 players suffer . But Landy gets a free pass. Thats why our team has no heart and no fire! Thats why the term Sooner Magic no longer exist!

Great article Berry! Jerry is spot on. With one more loss, Bob will have to make a decision...his first losing season at OU....possibly 3-9....no bowl...loss of recruits...more heat on him and the players that may begin to openly challenge the coaches and other players...division. A huge black eye and a long road back to the top without some huge changes on the staff...like Mack Brown...loyalty is a great quality, but there is a fine line between loyalty and being stubborn.
