I was dissappointed In the 2012 Oklahoma team from the first game with El Paso. I was probably the most disappointed in Landry Jones’s inbility to find his receivers and holding on to the ball too long.They were not sharp at all. I knew then that it was not going to be a good year unless, some substancial chages are made.I hoped the off week would result in some changes..not enough done.

The leadership void is on the sidelines. Leadership is making tough decisions. That means doing the right thing for the program, even if you have to fire your brother. Leadership is stepping up and saying we weren’t any good because we didn’t prepare the team properly, didn’t call the right defenses, were too predictable on offense. Leadership is admitting this program has gotten soft and lazy. Not the players, the coaches. They stay in their comfort zones instead of finding new ways to do things; always going back to what worked in the past. Leadership is stepping up and saying we let the fans down. Leadership is saying everything begins and ends with ME. Leadership is vowing to always be ready to play and keep that promise.

Leadership isn’t necessarily being a rah-rah player. It has to do with having your peers rally with you to get an optimum performance. Jones gets a bad rap because his demeanor is so much like Jay Cutler. Leadership is holding everyone around you accountable to ensure that mistakes do not re-occur. When the same mistakes are made by a supposed leader, it is impossible for the others in the group to expect themselves to be held accountable when mistakes are made.
