Paul. I have been an OU fan since 1966. I have been an OU fan all around the world in good times and bad. But I am also a realist. OU has underperformed expectations the last several years. That leads me to be believe there is a systemic problem in the program. Also, I have money on KState. I hated to do it, but I did. Look at this game in perspective. Going into last season would you have said KState would finish AHEAD of OU in the Big XII standings? KState hasn't lost ANYTHING from when they played OU last year. OU is still trying to find its way after losing its top receiver to injury and graduation and its top runner to injury last year. Also, we have no depth on defense or the offensive line. If OU is going to return to being great it will have to become worse so change will be forced on the program. OU will win 8 or 9 games a year. Not good enough to win championships but not bad enough to force change. This is the same thing that happened to FSU for years. Texas just demolished an Ole Miss team that beat UTEP by about the same score we did. That doesn't give me a good feeling about OU this year. OU has a good team, but not a great team.

This is based on how teams HAVE played. Not potential. The two OU wins don't look good AT ALL. Neither do the two WVA wins. I agree with the rankings above. Right now I would say if OU wins 8 games they will perform above what talent they have. No depth on the D-Line. Not an impressive O-Line. Receivers performing BELOW expectations. This isn't a team that will even win the conference let alone get to the BCS Championship Game. Texas is looking more and more like a Conference Championship contender, and I HATE the Longhorns. OSU was overrated to begin the season and shows why Gundy prefers only very poor lower division teams as a non-conference schedule. I think his contract is based on number of wins each season. I am a long time OU fan (over 40 years) and I am picking KState this week. OU has become stale and predictable. Run the same plays in the same situations, blocks the same way, blitzes at the same time and same way, and runs the same routes. It becomes much easier for opponents to prepare for them each week. It may be that Texas Tech is rated a little too high for three wins against not very good teams. But I wouldn't bet against them when they play OU. Jeff, I think you are wrong...KState has the best coach.

Iowa State has the best coach in the conference. Imagine if he had the resources of OU at his disposal? So I have no problem with this ranking. I'd have TCU at 9. Kansas is pathetic.

Berry states up front these rankings are based on what teams have done not how they will end up and he is about right. He is a little hard on Cowboys but that's ok. This is basically the preseason schedule which is meaningless. Get ready for some real Big 12 football games now!
