@Steve Hennessee: The athletic department’s budget has nothing to do with the academic side. OU’s athletic department is self-sufficient and donates money annually to the university. Athletics is doing its part.

The Big 12 has to expand to 12 and add a conference championship game in order to fulfill the Champions Bowl contract. Expansion and a CCG is coming.

There will never be a Big XII Championship Game again until Texas is left out of the 4 team playoff because of no Championship Game. Since UT was left out of the Big XII Championship Game the year of the three way tie in the South Division they will NEVER allow another Conference Championship Game. If they become the fifth team in a four team playoff and another team is ahead of them from the Big XII they will then DEMAND a Championship Game. Remember which school runs the Big XII. What they think is best for them is what matters. Everyone else can either complain and act like they are going somewhere else and then be embarrassed when they find out no one wants them, or they can smile and act like it is their idea in the first place.

I would love to see an 11-game, round-robin conference schedule. Each school could still schedule 1 guaranteed home victory against some creampuff to get the season started, but the rest of the schedule really would matter.

Randall, Bowlsby is just saying this stuff as PR to sell our round robin versus other conferences’ championship games. He’s just being a salesman. You can bet that if they went to 12 teams there will be a CCG.

Let me see if I get this straight. Expansion is not on the table, but if the Big 12 did expand, it wouldn’t necessarily add a CCG, because the Big 12 likes its round-robin schedule as the best way to get to the NCG.

If the Big 12 is committed to a round-robin schedule (which I like, BTW), then it is committed to no expansion, because a round-robin schedule with 12 teams would mean 11 conference games. Nobody will go for that–it wouldn’t allow enough room for Savannah States and FAMUs on the schedule.

How about the schools using some of that big money to lower the cost of tuition for the students. In the last 20 years, tuition at universities has gone up higher than the cost of health care or anything else. Lets quit screwing the next generation.

Bowlsby can say what he wants now for PR purposes, but if they went to 12 teams they would play a championship if there was money to be made. Assuming the championship game was a big money-maker (I think it was), you can take it to the bank that there will be a game.
