I say let the Olympics stay OUT of the US. It is getting to be a security and logistics nightmare. The host will have to put up hundreds of millions of dollars for facilities that will be sunk costs. The IOC will take most of the money and leave the host city with huge debt. Also, you have looked at the Summer Olympics only. You should have added in the Winter Olympics. Denver years ago was the only city with some sense. They got the Olympic bid and then the citizens voted down the taxes to pay for the facilities and sent the games packing. Is there any city in the US with a few hundred million dollars lying around the citizens want to spend? Yes, it increases tourism for a couple of weeks but at what cost?

Why would the US government want to have the Games brought in? By the time the USA could be eligible to host, the TSA will be on every street corner lining up people and having public molestation checkpoints, drones will be in the sky weaponized with tear gas, rubber bullets and possibly taser bullet.

It really doesn't look like a good PR move in the next 2 decades.

By population, the East is underepresented, with only 3. But that's changing.

And about Istanbul, anybody that's been there will tell you the city really as much European as it is Asian. In fact the city center is actually on the European side. An Olympics in Istanbul... well tThat would certainly be an interesting Olympics so say the least.

Berry, just a little correction. The Olympics were held in Los Angeles in 1984 not 1976. Other than that good blog. I agree
