Major college football coaches have only one goal. That is to WIN! They get paid multi-million dollar contracts and it isn't to have the players with the highest GPA or the highest graduation rate or the most ethical conduct. It is to WIN this year and every year. You have coaches who flaunt the rule against visiting juniors (see Nick Saban) and coaches who jump from one program to another (see a long list) and coaches who who turn a blind eye to paying players (see USC) in order to win championships. As long as they win the backers with the deep pockets will continue to pay them the high salaries. I guess the people who expect college football coaches to show respect to other coaches and programs also expect politicians to be honest.

You don't name the coach at his request.

It seems like the NCAA smelled blood and figured a way to bleed PSU to death. Maybe Boz had it right all those years ago.
The criminal justice system could have handled the matter, why invoke a thrashing on the players, and fans.

I think college football has proven itself willing to go upto the line of illegality and far too often over that line. Unwritten code? Nah, dont try to kid anyone. When the last skilled player on the roster is better than the best at Penn St, that is when a coach won't jump at a chance to pull in a transfer from Penn St.

There is a lot going on here. And to understand it, one has to analyze the motivation. Beckman, Coach of the University of Illinois seems to have taken the most heat within the Big 10. Apparently, he, and virtually his entire staff, were at State College. But there is an interesting sidebar. Big 10, with the loss of both Penn State and Ohio State to sanctions, believes its Leaders Division has taken a major competitive setback. (Inferential apology for some of the recruiting bad conduct of fellow Big Ten members.) Talk of realignment of divisions or, in the alternative, a vote (yes, a vote) for selection of the Leaders Division team in the Big 10 Championship game with the Legends. This has placed Delaney in the awkward position of continual questions as to expansion. To date, he has denied any consideration. Nevertheless, questions continue.
