The Lin deal was crazy, and it was more for fans buying tickets than a good fit for the team. He is good, no doubt, but not that good, not yet. He's yet to show he can go a whole season and be a consistent contributor. So we'll see. Yes, there are probably teams who will offer the max to Harden and/or Ibaka, but as yet, they are not max pay players. Durant is. Westbrook is. Harden and Ibaka are on the verge of being. I'd like to keep them both, but if I had to take one or the other, I'd have to take Ibaka and bid farewell to Harden. Wouldn't want to, but if he wanted to go and the offer was so great, I wouldn't stop him. I like Harden, but I don't think he helped us any in the Heat series. He froze up. He was inconsistent. But he's still young and new to these big games. If he steps up his game, he will be a max deal guy. But not yet.

Love Serge's game, but he's not a max player. His value is about 10-12.5 million a year, and the Thunder probably will sign him in that range for four years. Harden IMO is also not a max contract player either, but if he hits the open market, another team seems likely to overpay and make him one. I have a great deal of faith in Presti and the organization getting them both signed.

As Lynn said above, don't ever underestimate the character questions. In basketball where contracts are guaranteed and salaries are capped no one wants to get hamstrung by paying near top dollar for someone who may go off the deep end.

The most interesting thing about the McGee deal is that he did not sign an offer sheet with another team. So he either took a home town discount or no one else was truly interested in paying what a player of his ilk would usually command. Neither of which is a good sign for the Thunder. Deandre Jordan who is not nearly the offensive player and has questionable desire to improve got a very similar deal to McGee's last year and had several suitors besides Golden State and the Clippers. IF HE WANTS TO, Serge will get at least 20% to 30% more than both.

But Ibaka is not nearly as flaky as McGee, and Ibaka is probably twice as smart as McGee.

Lets see, Ibaka speaks five languages and McGee is seen as the NBA dunderhead.

I don't know if there's much comparison there , or not.
