I am waiting for the first year when teams that are left out file a class action lawsuit against the committee. This is a system that may sound good to some but it just doubled the number of teams in without really solving anything. There are usually a lot of teams that can make a claim for those number 3 and 4 slots. I say just go back to what it was before the BCS and forget it. It isn’t that important anyway and then everyone can just enjoy the bowl season and fans across the country can all claim their team is Number 1.

We could pick way better Presidents if we let 9 or 10 of the “right” people pick?????????????? Everyone feels that way if THEY get to pick who the “right” people are. The committee process will have the same problem the polls have. Those that get selected will say it works and those that are left out will scream it is unfair. That is human nature and NOTHING is going to change that. That being said there will have to be some type of regional (conference) representation as well as some national. If former coaches are included I would suggest people with reputations like Grant Teaff and Laval Edwards and NOT people like Barry Switzer. My idea is since this is really about MONEY and not a real National Champion just let whichever network ponies up the most money for the playoffs pick who they want to show. They might not be the best teams but they would be the teams that would have the highest TV ratings and that is what it comes down to anyway.

I couldn’t DISAGREE more.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, has their own biases and opinions. Keeping the selection committee relatively large will help even things out a bit… as opposed to having six guys who still think Notre Dame is relevant or think that Texas is deserving of a good ranking simply because of their name and history.

Berry’s off his rocker. You want to build in corruption, or at least the public perception of corruption? Then adopt Berry’s plan of having 6 or 7 insiders take over college football.

Also, I am never surprised when a newpapaper writer slams the Harris Poll. Hey Berry, I know they aren’t the Establishment (Associated Press) but they have opinions too. Their opinions count as much as yours, or mine.

Not feeling real good about the Secelction Committee idea, regardless of size, if the playoff pool is limited to 4 teams. Let’s say they implement this in 2014. Over the first 10 years of its existence, how many different teams do you think will make the “Football Final Four”? I bet it is a small number. In basketball, the elite teams have to earn their way to the Final Four – with no losses. The big guys are usually represented very well. But Butler gets there too – on merit. In this model, the “Butlers” of NCAA football (Boise State, for example) will not have a chance. I’m still not sure how I feel about this – skeptical at best. Perhaps the merits of the system are just not clear to me.

Oh, and BTW, Bobby Bowden would be an awesome choice to serve on the committee. Knowledgable, fair, honest. But I’d put a three year term limit in place right now so nobody serves on the committee for three decades – too much influence in the hands of a few.

Dude, America is a democratic republic – leaders are elected by the people and it is a better system than anywhere else in the world. The presidents have had their flaws, but America rules because power is in the hands of the people. I don’t disagree with the point about a small selection committee, but stay outta politics. You’re looking a little red.

All it takes is one Bobby Bowden on the 7-9 man committee, voting OU below a team it had beaten twice, to skew the results.

Better a mediocre decision reached by a larger committee than a bad one caused by one member with an agenda.

I like this idea and agree with it. I think the committe needs to be an uneven number of representatives, like 7, 9, 11, or 13 (13 being the max number of reps). With an uneven number, the odds of a “hung jury” where the vote is split evenly between two teams is eliminated.

I like the idea of regional selections for the committee as well. A pacific, northeastern, southeastern, mid-western, and plains region members should be a must, with the option to have a few more that are not regionally-tied, so to speak.
