It is simple... if you are trying to win, would you rather play a Big 12 conference schedule or an ACC conference schedule. Playing an ACC conference schedule provides maybe 1 or 2 legitimate opponents in a given year. Then ANNUALLY the big time winner of the ACC goes into the BCS and gets destroyed by any other opponent from another conference they play... well... Virginia Tech did get that huge win over that "traditional national power" Cincinnati a few years ago.

Congrats ACC fans. You have a better nonconference schedule than the Big 12 - THIS YEAR. And you will lose the majority of the nonconference games you plays against the SEC, Big 12 and other BCS leagues not names Big East.

Go ahead and brag about your nonconference schedule. It is all you can brag about.

Sos IS still a factor in the BCS poll. Two thirds of the formula are the human polls. Humans do take the sos into account.

Miami has always done a good job with ooc scheduling. We're 4-2 vs the Big XII since '05, even though we haven't been a very good football team. The K State game was a great game which went down to the last play.

There are no excuses not to play a competitive ooc schedule. I have more respect for teams that do so, period.

I hope that if and when the Big 12 goes to 12 teans they still play everyone in their conference. I suppose you all will complain that their 1 non-conference game is not strong enough. Just take a look at the pre top 25. The Big 12 has at least 6 teams the acc might have 3. The ACC COULD PLAY ALL 10 TEAMS IN THE BIG 12 AND IT WOULD BE HARDER THAN PLAYING 10 TEANS OF CHOIDE IN THE ACC PEROID!!!!

@Stillwater Bob, you have 2 teams that carry that conference on their backs and 1 of those teams have have been lucky to break .500 the past couple years. The sooners have been over valued here of late and your OSU team while they have been a descent team the past 2 years or so were just a midlle to below middle of the row team before that and as for the rest of the conference they have a team or 2 pop up every 3, 4, or 5 years as do teams in the rest of the power conferences do. So before you start beating your chest about your conference you need to take a strong look from top to bottom. As for the guy who said that the ACC teams played those tough OOC games because they were trying to catch the eye of ESPN, I hate to burst your bubble but most of the ACC schools have been playing those type of schedules for a long time much longer than a contract from ESPN was ever in the picture. Take a team like Clemson, and I know people love to bash on them, but they schedule 2 SEC schools every year. They play S. Carolina every year and this year and the past 2 they have played Auburn (the year Auburn won the NCG, Clemson took them to OT and barely got beat) the next 3 I think maybe just 2 they have Georgia schedule. Now tell me what Big XII team does that, NONE!!!! A team in the ACC can go to the NCG without playing a hard OOC. Just take the ACC champ last year Clemson they beat 4 ranked teams FSU, Auburn, VT twice and if they would have beat S. Carolina and Georgia Tech(who just beat the brakes off one of your Big XII teams) and ran the table you can't honestly sit here and tell me they wouldn't have played for NCG. Just look at that schedule no one in the Big XII can boast that type of schedule...

The only difference is, the ACC will lose 70% of those OOC games. They always do, and I'm an FSU fan, but facts are facts. The ACC SUCKS against OOC opponents

Jerry, VT has had about 90 straight home sellouts. They don't need any help filling the stadium. They also have sold out the Redskins stadium twice for neutral site games during that time, plus the Georgia Dome once for regular season games.

That is against all foes from Arkansas State and Appalachian State To LSU and aTm. You don't go to a game to see the competition, you go to see your team.

If you play in the Big 12 you already have a tough schedule. The goal is to win the National Championship. Of course the ACC has a stronger non conference schedule, that is their only hope of getting noticed. Plug any ACC team in the Big 12 and see if they change their thinking on non conference scheduling. Do you really want Texas, OU and OSU to schedule their non conference games at USC, at Alabama and at LSU every year? Or at Oregon, at Ohio State and at Georgia? Oh forgot, OSU played them their a couple of years ago. Ask Brown, Stoops and Gundy about that great idea! The truth is, you do just enough to get to the NC. Nothing more, nothing less.

Stillwater Bob.....that is the point. ACC teams are willing to schedule games they might actually lose. Also, notice all three games are away games for the ACC and home games for the Big XII. The Big XII schedule overall for years has been more about roughing up lesser competition and getting ready for the conference season than playing meaningful football. There have been some decent games each year but mostly they are games with outcomes already decided. The only question is how many points will the home team score. The article isn't about which conference is stronger but which conference is willing to play a decent non conference schedule. Just looking at this year it would seem it isn't the Big XII.
