So Virginia is not a “major-conference program”? But aren’t they and Miami in the same conference?

WVU is obviously not scared to schedule hard non-conference opponents. Some of them are cupcakes, but not all. They scheduled LSU the past two years, they were about to schedule Florida State this year and next but had to bail because of joining the Big 12. And in 2014 they are scheduled to play Alabama. Not all Pitiful here!

WVU cancelled the FSU game because it was the only true road game OOC. A $500K buyout vs. a $2+ million payday? It’s a no brainer. Also, the Seminoles caved rather easily after all their posturing initially. Hmmmmm….

Objective Guy, can you tell us when Texas scheduled Ole Miss? If I’m not mistaken Ole Miss was ranked in the top 10 for only one week in last 10/15 years.

When Texas scheduled Ole Miss they were a top 10 team. You can’t always predict when a team will be good or fall off the wagon or when they will get good again.

Scott…..Ole Miss was 2-10 last year and 0-8 in the SEC. That really sounds like a tough game. Just because a team is in a power conference doesn’t make it a tough game. Ask the teams that played KU last year. Would fans prefer their teams play two games a year against teams like Alabama, LSU, USC, Ohio State, Oregon, or Stanford and maybe end up 10-2 or 11-1 most years and not be in the top 4 at the end of the year and miss out on the BCS Championship Game, or would the fans prefer to play a weak non-conference schedule and hope they get a break in conference play and end up 12-0 and get into the BCS Championship Game? My bet is fans will SAY they want a tough non-conference schedule but they really want WINS and a chance at Championships.

Technically, there are five “Games against other major-conference programs”….you missed TCU vs. Virginia. But I wouldn’t call that a good game anyway.

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’d rank Texas’ OOF schedule as much higher if you’d done your homework and realized that Texas plays AT Ole Miss??

Berry, you seem to conveniently forget that OU tries to schedule tough non-conference games. But many factors come into the picture. Reason they are playing Florida A&M and UTEP?….they were the best available that were “willing” to play as a result of last minute changes in the conference. Also, when they schedule a team many years down the road, no one can tell what type of team they will bring. So its not accurate to say that they are scheduling weak teams…they were probably having a good year when they scheduled them.
