Hey Berry, I enjoy reading your articles and listening to your thoughts on the Total Dominance Hour. Has anyone thought about bringing 5% of officers from each metro/surrounding area police department? Think about it 5% from MWC,DC Piedmont, Edmond, Norman, Yukon, Warr Acres, Bethany, Mustang, Choctaw, Spencer, Noble, New Castle, Forrest Park. Goodness even Shawnee. I know for some 5% may only be 2 or 3 officers and there would be some type of jurisdiction exceptions, but I'm sure it can be worked out considering officers from different towns will travel to sporting venues in other towns. Clinton vs. Elk City for example. Just a thought...

I agree with the officer wholeheartedly. The prior game to the one where the violence happened the crowds were blocking streets being rowdy. Where there are a lot of people, there is a potential for trouble. I also SHUDDER to think what would have happened had this open carry law been in full effect. It could have been a massacre all because everybody would have thought they had the "right" to shoot. Oklahoma is really embarrassing on a whole lot of levels right now and it is TOTALLY not fair to let a couple of punks ruin real fans activities. A shame!

Randall, your concept of exponential growth is laughable. Don't quit your day job at McD's.
If OKC has 1,029 police officers and assuming one-third of them would be on duty in a shift that leaves ~343 officers on duty at the time with 102 of them in the Bricktown/Arena area. Well, the remaining 241 officers have over 600 other square miles of OKC to watch because 'bad people' don't just hang around sporting events. They rob homes and businesses, get in auto accidents, have domestic disputes and generally shooting, stabbing, raping and pillaging anything 'bad guys' can think of. Think about it!

But then again, if the city leaders want to tell everyone how great OKC is and how great Bricktown is and how far MAPS
has progressed this city, I suggest they come up with something a bit more citizen-friendly than shutting down an event. Eliminate the liquor/beer. Isn't consuming alcohol in public a misdemeanor anymore? How about getting the Fire Dept to set up a few trucks? Nothing like a dose of high pressure water to calm down the ruffians should it come to that. Or maybe just let 'frontier justice' takes its course and let the public beat the thugs to a bloody pulp next time.

Wanna know what the saddest thing about our society? It takes only one person, who was trigger happy, to cancel such great event within a day. And not a day, when it took a toll on millions who were victim of a sex offender, to create strict laws to protect the little ones.

A question arise when there are 10 percent of our police force on duty (102 officers) at an event with a crowd of 8,000. Which means it takes one officer to monitor 78 fans. When there are far less than the number of officers in the metro monitoring the remaining population.

I believe a better system would have been a solution, after all America was discovered by a mistake.

I agree that we may need more officers however as some have suggested not locking u drug dealers is not the answer eiher theThunder are a great addition to the city and i think shutting down Thunder Alley and/or the watch party after 1 incident be it a major one it is letting the thugs/morons/punks/gangster wanna bes win and that is happening now. Let the police have a larger presence, maybe charge a couple or 3 bucks a head to stay t the watch party and let that help cover the additional costs, just dont let the thugs ductate our entertainment OKC is a great place to live nd work, lets keep it that way

There is supposed to be a curfew in OKC for minors. I don't supposed that was enforced. Maybe they should check ID's at random. Plus that billboard on the arena was paid for by us the OKC sales tax payers when the MAPS 3 hit the books. It's to bad it should have to be this way.

Why vote for any more maps projects if the city can't handle the crowds when they show! It's truly sad that a couple of teenage trouble makes 3 BLOCKS AWAY have to spoil the fun for thousands of others who wanted nothing more than to support their team! I believe that there are other ways to deal with security issues rather than shutting down Thunder Alley! Why not shut down Brick town since there's been trouble there in the past? Or why not shut down the State Fair, everyone knows all the trouble that's happened there over the years! Everything from kidnapping to gang fights! Why not shut down the interstates because fatality accidents happen on them all the time! It makes no sense to punish thousands just because of a few teenage idiots!

I wonder why the OKCPD did not ask the OCSD for help, when the offer was there? And what about the possibility this had nothing to do with Thunder Alley? I understand, but still hard to swallow, when there could be so many other well thought out reactions. Car accident (stop all driving), A couple of bad eggs and punish and stop all. Glad we as a nation didnt stop all large sporting events or crumble under pressure when other events happened, and people know which events I am talking about. Just my two cents. I am sure I will get change back.

Underfunded and understaffed police and fire departments leave the city wide open for catastrophe. Remember the Murrah bombing. Or the May 3rd tornado.
