The sad fact is that our contemporary society does not have the stomach nor the spine to truly deal with the real problem. We could stop this kind of violence if we really wanted to, by pinpointing and targeting the criminal element that perpetrate the violent acts. But political correctness of mondern society won't allow that. Much like how we deal with terrorism in our society, we choose to punish all of society by taking away all our freedoms and rights instead of going after the very small numbers who are committing the crimes. We know who they are, but we don't have the spine to do anything about it.

Unfortunately, society has changed from a time we knew growing up. It was nothing to have pre-teens ride their bikes 20 miles to the river or lake, spend the afternoon and return home safely. The same can be said of how authorities were respected and good-ole peer pressure from the many could disuade the rowdy few from ruining a community event. Again, times have changed and the thugs have no fear of being arrested nor could care less what others think about their behavior. On the contrary, for many having their mugshot plastered all over the media is their perverted vision of "15 minutes of fame". Sick. And sad. What should have been a shining moment for our city, our fantastic Thunder organization and their loyal fans instead was a national embarrassment because of a wannabe who's mama should've spanked his misguided ass, made him pull up his pants and act like somebody who appreciates his American freedoms. Quite frankly, it sickens me to know that now out taxpayer dollars will have to be wasted taking care of his 'food and shelter' the next twenty years while serving out his sentence. Talk about a real waste? Here's an idea recycled from the 70's - let's take all these kids who insist on playing with guns in public and strap a uniform, backpack and helmet on 'em and let them 'serve' on the front lines where at least they can do something to earn their keep. Perhaps then and if they come home that they'll have a better understanding of freedoms we hold dear - like being able to watch a game in Thunder Alley without the fear of some punk looking for his fifteen minutes of fame!

Gotta disagree Barry! We already live in a nanny state! We shouldn't suffer because of a few bad people. Once again, the powers that be have to tell the public what they can and cant do. Apparently you and they feel that you know whats best for us. They could have charged admission to help pay for the extra security, they could have done many different things, instead they pull the plug on a great event. Maps brought us the arena, which got us the Thunder. We wanted to be a big league city, well now we are because of our foresight to build our city up in hopes for the future. But Big league cities don't fold their tent in a situation like this, they man up, hire the security and continue with a great event! Modify it, sure, but don't cancel it! New York city doesn't shut down central park when a shooting occurs, they deal with it. Okc is not Stillwater! We could have done it. Sad that a "major league city" can't handle at most 12 playoff games at Thunder Alley and that's if we have home court and all series go the full 7 games. Welcome back Podunk, "Big League was fun while it lasted!
