Few men could hold a candle to Bill Stewart. There will never be another with the love, the heart and the pride that he had not only for the state of WV and WVU but most of all for his players. He was the heart of WVU football!

The Fiesta Bowl saw WVU players not just at their best but beyond it. Every one of them was faster and sharper than ever before. Coach Stewart took the difficulties and used them to forge stronger individuals and a stronger team when most expected them to fall apart. It wasn’t mere chance; it was Coach Bill Stewart. Sad that so many refused and refuse to see beyond the superficial image to the truth.

I never believed that bunk about him calling a reporter. And suffice it to say, there has never been any proof. I really feel as many others do that the whole deal was a setup to discredit Coach Stew and to make the move more rapid than was formerly planned and give Holgorson some time to win over some fans. Bill Stewart will be remembered for many things, maybe even dying of a broken heart as many have said. He never set up Holgorson. As much as he didn’t want to go, he loved his Mountaineers more. Once a Mountaineer fan, always a Mountaineer fan. It’s not the coach we cheer for, it is the team. The whole team! RIP Coach Stewart!

No, it wasn’t a mistake. The mistakes were from fans and local media, and Ken Kendrick who refused to look beyond their impression of Coach Stewart compared to how they thought a coach should look and speak.

Also, there was never any evidence at all that Coach Stewart attempted to dig up dirt on Holgorsen. Indeed, there is more evidence that the story was planted as part of an ongoing attempt to discredit Coach Stewart.

Sadly, the integrity of Bill Stewart is not shared by enough people.
