Chelf will not transfer, and probably be okay with finishing his senior year as backup again. He has no NFL aspirations, and with only one year of eligibility left, I can't see him sitting out a year to MAYBE beat someone out and play only one more season. He might go to a FCS school, but I doubt it.

Walsh, otoh, will almost certainly consider transferring, with 3 years of eligibility left. He was recruited in the "pre-Holgerson" days when OSU was running the zone read with Zac Robinson. Walsh would have been perfect for that, but along came Weeden and everything changed. I don't see why he would stay at OSU, with a true freshman promoted to starter ahead of him. Good luck to JW, whatever he decides.

I applaud Coach Gundy's decision. For those who wished to prolong the QB derby, look at the results in Austin, TX last year. The important thing about the announcement is that Lunt has time to mentally process the responsibility and level of commitment required of the title.

I agree with the assessment that OSU's defense and running game should win the first three games, and the kicking game gives them a great chance to win the fourth. By the Kansas game, OSU's passing game should be running in high gear and look to dominate the league.

Gundy is looking down the road. Lunt picked up the offense so fast that he caught Gundy's eye as a potential All American in the making. Hate to see either Walsh or Chelf on the side lines as they both too are very good players but they will get a chance to play...Gundy recognises they have talent and will utilize them as back-ups or other positions where they can contribute. Who know though as Walsh or Chelf may pick up their game and become the franchise OSU QB for the next two years. The battle is not over.

As noted the major Big 12 powers will all lose their QB's at the end of this year. At OSU QB's will be a major experience and strength in 2013. I bet that the OSU offense will continually improve 2012 and be a Big 12 offensive leader. With a improved defense OSU will again be a dominant team in the Big 12.

Walsh isn't going anywhere.

The kid is a gamer, he's confident that he can win the job, his teammates respect his leadership qualities and athletic abilities and I predict Walsh will work even harder this offseason to keep his hat in the ring.

Congratulations to Wes Lunt on being named the starter, but we've not seen Wes nor Walsh in a real game situation. We don't know who or how they'll respond.

But there's no doubt that both could do the job and that playing is just an injury or a few bad series away.

The both will push each other and support each other. What will be will be.

He is the best option or Gundy would have went with the safe choice of Walsh. Lunt will have his growing pains but now that he is the starting QB the team will rally behind him. He is the closest thing to Weeden of the 3 QB's. Strong arm, great attitude. If jw moves on it's ok. Weeden set the standard at OSU and we will have no problem with adding future great QB's. As long as Monken is with the Pokes we will have great pro style QB's.

Berry, you basically said zero positive things about the Lunt choice. You mentioned that if he held the position that in 2013 he would be on of the B12's most experienced QBs. uhh, wouldn't that statement stand for any of the three candidates.

You could be grump and having a bad day, if not - Maybe you should just let Gina blog about this
