They should take away that Super Bowl Trophy .I guess the aint lovers forget those pictures of Farve where his leg looked like hamburger meat.

Interesting to see who got knocked out of those games or who got a knee ruined. When you have to entice a "professional football player " with money to intentionally end someones game or career in order to win - you need to be out of the game.

Maybe if someone had cheapshotted Brees it would have been different.

I find it interesting that no one has claimed anything illegal about the "hits" that were to take place. Does anyone, including Goodell have any evidence that because of the bounties that any player acted outside the rules with regard to hits? Were they twisting ankles or knees, hitting players after the whistle, tackling them during timeouts?

For players at the NFL level, every play is life or death. Every tackle is delivered with the maximum mayhem that is available to them...do you really think that 10,000 in a kitty is going to make them hit harder than they already do...especially since most of them are already making millions?

This is more NFL posturing...like pink shoes and no untucked shirts.

I really find it appropriate that the same league and commissioner who fined James Harrison 75,000 for a hit, only to find out that the NFL was selling pictures of Harrison's hit (and 7 other "illegal tackles")on their official web site...should be worried about the league's reputation.

We're transforming America's favorite game into a game of flag football. Don't deny it. We love the big hits. I never saw the Saints take that many cheap shots. They were all legal hits. You get a chance to hit the QB - you do it in the NFL. Someone comes across the middle - you light him up with a legal hit. Don't take that away from us. Don't water-down our Sundays with hypocritical policies. Better to crack down on point shaving, or the betting engine that runs the NFL. How many games are influenced by big betting money? I'm more concerned with that than with big hits or bounties (paid on legal hits). NFL players are big boys. They realize the dangers when they enter the field of play.

How is the "bounty" revelation by Commisioner Goodell any different than the shock and horror that Bud Selig had when steroids were pushed to the forefront in baseball? Bounties and rewards have been apart of football for ages--various former players have said so recently. To praise Commissioner Goodell for taking this stance is hypocritical, unless you found Commissioner Selig's actions on steroids praiseworthy.

So why the punishments now? They need a scapegoat and an illusion that they take game's violence seriously. The lawsuits brought my numerous former players are not frivolous. Gregg Williams and Sean Payton provide nice law room anecdotes.

Roger Goodell has been inside the NFL for over 20 years, and for him to claim that he's just heard about bounties, is as absurd as Bud Selig being surprised that steroids were in the game of baseball. Suspending Sean Payton and Greg Williams now, is weak, if not cowardly. If this was really a concern of Goodell and his men, he should have taken care of iit 5 years ago when he took over.
