Remember, this is the first game of the season, and it’s not like they didn’t give SSU a choice. This will be the first time the new offensive line has actually played a real game together, so don’t be so quick to hate. Besides, with OSU’s current ranking, they will need the W’s later on in the season.

Didn’t Goliath have the same attitude before his battle with David? Along with being a Christian, I am a very proud SSU alumnus. While our football team has had little success over the past few years, I am still proud of their efforts and the money that has been used to give our beloved campus a much-needed upgrade. I was even prouder when our men’s basketball team–a team mostly made up of freshman and sophomore players–gave Tennessee a true run for its money this past season; I’m sure that Tennessee alums had your attitude prior to the game. Tennessee won, but I’ll bet they know who SSU is now.

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see your blog when SSU beats OSU. Yes, I did say “when” because it is possible. Oh,yeah, you wanted to know who SSU is. Well, I’ll tell you: SSU is an HBCU that was founded in 1890 by Richard Wright and is the oldest public HBCU in Georgia. It was the original Georgia State (the name was changed to Savannah State College in 1950). SSU is a university that has educated some of the finest scholars who are excelling in their respective fields. SSU alums–particularly those who matriculated there before the 2000s–know how to do more with less. We learned this while other colleges/universities (i.e. GA Southern and neighbor, Armstrong Atlantic State) got the things that we deserved. Thanks for the obligatory mention of Shannon Sharpe, but we are much more than Mr. Sharpe. Other notable alums include Donnie Cochran, the first black U.S. Navy Blue Angel.

Mr. Tramel, if you need any more info about who SSU is, please let me know. Go, SSU Orange and Blue!!!!

Yes SSU has been terrible for the past 12 years and thanks for pointing that out. However SSU has made great strides in improving their Athletic program and this is just another step in the right direction. Many schools started as a doormat for the big schools. Boise State, USF, Appalachian State, Troy State etc… just to name a few. To be perfectly honest small schools like SSU have difficult times competing with schools like OSU because the funding and alumni support and to be perfectly honest those 4 star and 5 star black athletes that go to these powerhouse schools go there simply because of the TV exposure as well as the pro type facilities. Imagine if SSU or FAMU had this type of support and those same 4 star and 5 star athletes choose to come to these smaller schools this article would be totally different.

Well, if all this damn conference realignment didn’t happen these past 18 months, and will continue another 3-4 years, it would be easier for 1-A’s to fill their schedules with good opponents……

Unfortunately after WVU backed out of their game with Florida State, FSU was scrambling to find an opponent. After contacting like 50 schools, FSU had to settle on Savannah State as well: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7602256

As an OSU alum and fan, I’m not that bothered about it, as long as it’s one cupcake game. I feel the same about OU if they play only 1 scrub team. The rest of OSU’s non-conf slate isn’t too challenging, but no one knew how could or bad Arizona would be a couple years back, and UL is halfway decent. As long as a BCS team or respectable Mountain West team shows up in the non-conference schedule for a team I’m relatively happy. With a Big 12 conference schedule, I’m fine with one gimme game.

Yeah, Savannah State sounds pretty bad, but it’s obviously an opportunity for them, mostly money-wise.

Of course a man of YOUR character would say such disrespectful things about something you know nothing about. The fact that you had to ask who is Savannah State is such a lackadaisical way show’s your ignorace. We are the heart and soul of Savannah, GA. When the Tigers take the field we are proud of our University and the history that lies within. We may not have won all of our games and we may not have played many large colleges or universities but that doesn’t mean that your “wonderful” university will win this game either. They doubted David but he defeated Goliath. If you are so upset about the school’s line up, quit your job and go somewhere else. You may not know who Savannah State is now, but after this game you will!!! I am a proud 2004 graduate of Savannah State University and our motto is “You can get anywhere from here” and when we come and step foot on your turf our motto will stand just as such because we have made it to your lame school and after we leave it will never be the same!! “Where Savannah meets the sea!!” I love my SSU!

And I hush falls over the room! I was apart of the SSU Men’s basketball team in from 2000-2003 (The first three years paticipating against Div-I schools) And I mean we took some beating form the likes of Nebraska, Florida State, Frenso State, Miami etc…these were large pay out games to our program. From there we where able to upgrade your basketball facility tremdously! If you don’t believe check out the website (http://ssuathletics.com/index.aspx?tab=basketball&path=mbball) We went from playing in a gym that only had bleaches located on one side, to a beautiful place we can truly call home named Tiger Arena! These kids now are reaping the benefits of our tough times, and not only that; they are #1 in the MEAC (DI-AA) With a serious chance of making the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. So OSU alumni calm down and realize that you guys are truly being a blessing to our University, and the students to come in the future!!! I Love my SSU! Tell them we are raising!
