Big 12: Don’t blame Missouri for scheduling dilemma

Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas told the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette on Wednesday that he expects West Virginia to be in the Big 12 this summer and expects to release the 2012 Big 12 football schedule by Feb. 1. Which is Wednesday. Neinas said all kinds of interesting things, which you can read here.

Neinas also said the scheduling dilemma — with the Big 12 needing West Virginia to immediately fill the void left by Missouri’s departure to the Southeastern Conference — can be blamed on Missouri.

“The one thing that gets lost is we’re in this predicament because the SEC invited Missouri,” Neinas said. “But the SEC was willing to play with 13 (rather than 14) next season. We made an offer to Missouri that was financially beneficial to stay for another year. Missouri made the decision not to accept.”

Uh, can the pot stop calling the kettle black and gold? Missouri is not doing anything other than looking out for itself, which is what every other entity has done. Missouri wants to get in its new league as soon as possible. The same way Nebraska and Colorado did, and the same way A&M did, and the same way West Virginia wants to. Lame-duck status doesn’t help anything. And the Big 12 can’t very well rip Missouri for leaving the conference in a bind, when the Big 12 is attempting to do the exact same thing to the Big East.

No one has the high ground here. Everyone is fighting for their own skin. Frankly, that’s what college sports are all about. The quicker we accept that, the better off we’ll all be.

Amen! Berry.

Not to mention the SEC didn’t “invite” Missouri. Missouri by their own free will applied for membership. The Big XII is the one sending invites to other schools…openly courting them rather than the other way around.

Let’s also not mention that this huge dilemma the Big XII is complaining about is exactly what the Big XII did to the Big East when it pursued and stole TCU two days before Missouri left.

Once in a while you get some wood on the ball. Thanks. The bottom line is that several schools (even your beloved Sooners) have been looking around for greener pastures for years. Any and all schools that have been able to escape the dysfunction of the Big 12 are far better off for it.

Seems Neinas is an apt replacement for Beebe. As someone said of Beebe, when Neinas speaks you can see DeLoss Dodds’ arm up the back of his jacket.

I don’t blame Mizzou for the schedule mess, but do for the realignment mess. Its overtures to the Big Ten in 2009-10 started all this.

Tom that’s hokum. Yeah MU tried to go but Nebraska was dissatisfied with TX aswas MU and others got the offer and left, same withColo.

The real problem is the BIG XII invited a team to join that would have to break a contractual agreement to do so. The ACC also invited teams from the Big East to join but they stipulated they would join AFTER they had fulfilled their obligations to the Big East. The villain in all of this is the Big XII. The Big XII should never have requested WVA be included until after they had completed their required time in the Big East. TCU was a different situation. They had already stated they were leaving the Mountain West but had not yet officially joined the Big East. I still say get rid of Neinas and the entire Big XII office staff. It is redundant and costs too much money. All Big XII policy is run out of Dodd’s office in Austin anyway. If the Big XII needed a school to join on June 1st they should NOT have looked to the Big East. If they were interested in long term growth and they wanted to rob the Big East they should have followed the ACC example and made the invitation but delayed the date of the joining until after they had fulfilled all requirements to the Big East. Neinas complaining about Missouri leaving the Big XII is like a guy whose car was stolen while he was robbing a bank calling the police to report the car theft.

Why this? Why now? Is Ninias letting us know, back door, that snags are going on in the mediations or what. I can understand bitterness, but again, why do this now? Or was this just some more publicity for the Big 12, while showing West Virginia readers the Big 12 is supporting them.

Scheduling will bite the Big East too. And….

Let’s go Mountaineeeeeers!

After good old Missou publicly wanted to go to the Big 10, then a year later, Pres. David Boren started blowing his mouth off about “not being a wallflower,” and ” we’re focusing on the Pac 12″ statements. He talked out of turn so many times it was ridiculous and the misinformed regents followed him off the cliff to boot.

But the A&M President outed UT when he said they were talking to the PAC 10 back in 2009. It isn’t Mizzou’s fault they were looking for a better situation. Texas started it and it was stubborn Texas that strong armed the rest of the league to go along or else they’d leave them to the Mountain West. It is already easy to hate the Horns but I hate them more for blowing up the old Big 8. F Texas. BOOMER SOONER!!!

And as a Mizzou fan, i just want to say I’m sure the university, players and fans all wanted to stick around for ANOTHER year of being ridiculed and taunted by all the other schools for bailing on the Big12. (Already dealing with it this year. Another full year would be even worse).

Why in the world would you want to stick around for that if you could cut the ties now? That’s like sticking around with your spouse while you go thru UGLY divorce proceedings. That’s just uncomfortable and awkward. Sure someone is going to feel hurt, rejected, blah blah.. that’s Neinas (now the divorcee) who’s lashing out at their former partner!

If you make a decision, act fast and sure-footed. No lolly-gagging!

The comments that Missouri started the realignment moves are ridiculous and uninformed. In fact, Texas had made overtures to the Pac 10 a full year before Missouri “winked” at the Big 10. And when the Big 10 was willing to offer Missouri only a junior membership for the first few years, Missouri balked, but Nebraska jumped at the chance to leave Texas behind.

And as posted above, you can be sure that Neinas doesn’t say a word unless DeLoss Dodds has scripted, edited and rehearsed it with him.

The funny thing is Texas ran off four Big 12 teams, but it seems their ego was really bruised when Missouri called their bluff. The sad thing is that Texas has now ruined two conferences with their “me first” attitude. I’ll bet the Big 8 members really regret the day they allowed that cancer in.

By the way. How does Mizzou sticking around for ONE extra year, help solve any of this mess? WVU’s deal says 27 months. That’s more than 2 years….

Saying it woiuld all be fine if MU would have stayed doesn’t address the fact that there’d still be a mess to deal with come 2013.
Then what? Oh Mizzou. stay one more year… ????

Well, Misery must have wanted out bad enough to be placed in the SEC East. I would have told the SEC to either move Auburn to the East or else. Missou’s closest East Div. team is what, over 400 miles away. Now that is ridiculous.

Actually, Rodeo, you are right about our closest Division team not being close…Vanderbilt is 359 miles away. However, ALL but two of the teams in the ENTIRE SEC are closer than Texas Tech and Texas…and that’s not even including the new and improved Big12 with WVU and TCU. The distance isn’t as big of a deal as most people make it to be. We border 3 SEC states as well…same as in the Big12 with Oklahoma, kansas, and Iowa. AND our games will be warm and the scenery will be fantabulous. Neinas is a goober though.

Had the Big 12 just picked up BYU, they wouldn’t be in this mess. They could have gone after Louisville and WVU second. Unfortunately, the ‘leaders’ of the B12 are reactive instead of proactive.

and Miz you are right, the scenery will be great, but I still think you should have told the SEC to shove it if you couldn’t be in the West with A&M. Auburn should have moved over to the East. I wanted OU to go to the SEC, but Boren is a bigger goober than Neinas. Now I’m happy OU is still in the Big XII, enjoy the Sooner Network on your local Fox Sports Net!

How is the Big12 going to announce their new schedule on Feb.1 when the non-binding arbitration with WVU and The BIG East doesn’t start till Feb.9th. With nothing resolved as of now other than WVU getting stuck in the BIG East till 2014 this sounds awfully hokey.
And what about all these rumors coming out from other schools saying the BIG12 is trying to get them to join as soon as possible.
I will not be surprised to see a school like Rice jump into the BIG12 and fill in for WVU even if it is just for a few years because of revenue and the Houston TV Market. Tuck Fexas and the cow they rode in on.

Excuse me “Rodeo” but did you actually just state that Missouri should have given the SEC an ultimatum before it even joined? A team with no recent conference football championships or BCS appearances thinks it gets to dictate terms to conference with 6 national championships in a row??!! WOW!!!! Guess you think some recent high school graduate should walk into a Fortune 500 company and demand to be made a vice president with a corner office & a six-figure paycheck, huh?! Why in the heck should the SEC force a charter member with multiple conference championships & a recent national championship to move to another division just to accommodate MISSOURI??!!!!! While we were willing to do it for the good of the conference, if Missouri fans are going to take that kind of attitude then you can go screw yourselves.

Yeah, us Missouri fans don’t like being put in the SEC East and we’re going to complain about it, lol…this SEC dominance thing won’t last forever. Enjoy while you can…

I love how so many of Mizzou’s detractors point to a lack of championships as a reason to think MU is a poor addition to a conference such as the SEC.

Academics and TV sets are much more important. Missouri had both and the SEC recognized their value. So I guess that’s pretty much that.

Lyndsey, Rodeo isn’t a Missouri fan. It was pretty darn clear in his posts. He never said he was a Missouri fan. He didn’t even spell Mizzou correctly. Settle down a bit. Maybe learn how to read before you rant about Missouri fans based on a post by a Sooner.

Oh, and he referred to Missouri as “Misery”. LOL. Now your post looks even more stupid. Silly Alabama chicks…

Boomer Sooner!
