Agree..BV didn’t have a choice..stay and get no credit or continue to get the blame….how could he tell Bob not to rehire his brother? Three strikes…don’t blame him for going….thanks for all of the great games over the past 13 years…thanks for making a difference…..you will always be a Sooner!

BV wasn’t left with a choice. He was being demoted. No doubt Mike Stoops was going to be calling the defense during games. If he stayed it would be a no win situation for him. If he stayed and OU improved on defense next year Mike Stoops gets the credit and BV looks bad and his stock goes down. If he stays and the defense doesn’t improve then his stock still goes down. So, the only option open to him if he wanted to ever be a head coach ANYWHERE was to leave. His big nightmare now is if the Clemson defense isn’t any better next year but the OU defense is. He won’t be getting the Clemson head job unless Dabo Sweeney is hired by a major program. If Dabo is fired it will be because of the defense.

Mike needs a makeover….Bob and OU can make that happen more quickly than some of the spots he could have landed. The real question…..how
long is Mike staying this time?

What I can’t believe is that Mike Stoops would be willing to come back to work under his big brother again immediately after being fired as a head coach. He had other opportunities. Why would a good coach want to come back to where he was 12 years ago. Looks like he can’t make it on his own.

Lehman and Dvoracek just called Tram a liar on KREF about Brent not really being offered the chance to still call plays. Love it! I will take their word over Tram’s anyday.

The sign of great coaching is IN GAME ADJUSTMENTS and it’s safe to say that Venables unequivocally failed the last few years in this regard. It can be understandable to come into a game with a defensive scheme that isn’t effective but when you have inferior teams like Utah St., Air Force, TxTech and Baylor doing whatever they want to do for the entire game with no adjustments being made then it points directly to the defensive coordinator. His performance has been completely inexcusable and whatever OU will miss from his recruiting, they’ll gain in coaching. Their defense can only get better…they were just awful.

Tramel, you say it is clear that the old system was going to be used? Clear to whom? You’re not in the coachs’ meetings. You have no idea how it would’ve played out. Venables was NOT demoted as you keep saying….its just your viewpoint….how you perceive it to be. But that does not make it true. Venables was a dynamic recuiter and coach. Criticized far too much for OU’s losses. He wasn’t on the field missing tackles or out of position.
I hope he finds success in this move. It would’ve worked better for OU had he stayed. We better hope OU doesn’t face Clemson in a bowl game in the near future.

I hate to see Brent Venables go. He will be missed. I would’ve liked to see things work out with Mike Stoops returning and Venables staying. I hope it goes great for him at Clemson.

Next hot seat is OC…if we keep the same offense next year and do not modify what schemes we run and the defense is not a shut down D, watch out HEUPEL. Both offense and defense must complement one another.

I agree with Berry. It was time for Brent to be nudged out of the nest. Good luck to him in the future. Because of job security, it was kinda a roll of the dice for him to leave and go to Clemson, but OU needs some new blood. I’m excited for both of em.
