Without adding several more teams BEFORE UT leaves the Big 12...and they must be teams who have large fan bases, new markets, and tradition rich programs....the Big 12 is doomed as a major conference. OU won't even stay if we don't start adding some teams. UT is going independent. If the Big 12 doesn't start planning for that now, we will all be looking for a forest to run to...The Big 12 has to think big and be aggressive. If not, the conference will be another Conference USA - and OU will ot stay. Looking for 6 teams.....wanna play??

What Boren did was make everyone show their cards...in doing that he got a blackeye...but the upside is better revenue distribution and a chance for the Big 12 to survive. The next question is can the Big 12 survive without UT? If more Big 12 teams get scared and run into the forest, the Big 12 will implode. Will OU stay when UT leaves? That is why it is imperative that the Big 12(10) add about 6 more teams...be the first to get to 16 teams. The SEC is just 2 teams away...and it won't take them long to find 2 more teams that can be bought off by money....

I agree with the comment from Tim. Texas is positioning themselves to go Independent. If they can get a BCS deal like Notre Dame they will be out the door. They just need to keep the Big XII together until they can FINALLY get the Longhorn Network off the ground. They will be able to schedule who they want and can usually have only one loss per year. That puts them with a chance at the BCS Championship Game and at least a very good bowl. They will also get to KEEP all that TV and bowl money. One thing Deloss Dodds and UT aren't good at is sharing. OU won't be able to dump the Texas game in the Cotton Bowl every year is because OU needs it much more than Texas does. OU has to have a game in Dallas every year for recruiting. What kind of TV deal will the Big XII get without Texas?

Face it, folks. Texas, the richest program in college football, will call the shots. As long as UT wants there to be a Big 12, there will be a Big 12. OU consistently has a better team, but for many and varied reasons, UT has the clout. OU will never be a "wallflower," but Boren did come off a bit of a dolt.

Great idea about the Cotton Bowl, but I differ with you about UT. I, too, live inTexas....they tried to use the PAC-12... Except the PaC-12 told UT to stick it....all about the great UT network....UT won't give it up because at some point they will go independent. OU had a place to go....the SEC...OU will always have a place to go....it is the winningest program in college football since WW II. There are Okies scattered all across the country. Before the NBC deal with Notre Dame...rumors were OU was offered or was about to be offered. UT is a user....it gets what it wants...did in the SWC and in the Big 12. Boren won some concessions..give him credit...or give the money your school gets because of the new deal to OU. Say whatever....the Big 12 now has a chance....until UT goes solo...and take it to the bank....they will...live by arrogance and die with it.....

Let's face it. Boren read the papers and thought he had some power. He found out neither he nor OU had the kind of power he thought they did. The PAC 12 didn't want OU, at least not without Texas. He found out OU is tied to Texas and the only opinion about college football that matters in Oklahoma and Texas is that of Deloss Dodds. A&M decided they could no longer stomach the arrogance of UT and they didn't work to get concessions or try to negotiate a better deal in the Big XII. They LEFT. Boren found out OU had no place to go and therefore the bluff left OU and every other school not UT in a much weaker place in the conference. I think it is possible it will be MUCH weaker in the near future. In an unrelated matter if the BCS bowl system ceases in the next BCS contracts and the only game that is a BCS game is the championship I would hope the Big XII looks to sever its ties to the Fiesta Bowl and sign an agreement that the Big XII champion play in the Cotton Bowl. A much bigger and more impressive stadium IN the Big XII home area. The Rose Bowl is in the Pac 12 home area, the Sugar Bowl is in the SEC home area, and the Orange Bowl is in the ACC home area. Why not have it so the Big XII Champion plays a "home" game. Jerry Jones should be able to come up with the money to top the Fiesta Bowl pay out. Jerry Jones Stadium could also be a host to a BCS championship game. That would be to the advantage of the Big XII Champion.
