As I see it, the problem is no matter how it comes out the final selection will be picked on subjectivity, feeling, thinking, personal opinion and so on. NO REAL way to 'pick' the two best teams. Pick sill implies choosing from among many. To me, the ONLY way to handle this is to follow the Professional playoff way, and let everything result from mathematical ratings, regardless of personal likes I think X is better than Y. Not to many years ago the New York Giants won the championship and had lost 5 games. So to me whoever plays in the BSC tile games will be chosen on subjective reasons. Take the conference winners from 8 conferences and have a 3 week playoff. Simple.

Some of the people who comment here have SEC blinders on. The SEC played almost nobody from the Big 12, (#3 Arkansas beat the 8th best team in the conference by 4 points), Big 10 Nebraska beat Penn State by the same score as Alabama and they are not in the top 4 in the Big 10. LSU beat Oregon and they are not the best team in the Pac 10. THAT'S IT. THERE IS ZERO CASE FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BETWEEN TO SEC TEAMS. LSU should play the Big 12 or the Big 10 champion, or ??Pac 10??. The comparison score will show that Alabama and Arkansas could never be rated the number 2 or 3 teams in the conference, but if either one of them want that ranking the only way for them to get it is to have LSU prove it by beating the Big 12 or Big 10 champs worse than they beat Alabama. Anything else does not produce a legit final ranking. But OSU or the Big 10 champ will beat LSU, so don't get too excited for tide or the razorbacks just yet.

Reading this article and all of the responses (especially Bob's lobbying for Big 12 dominance :)) has been a real hoot.

Look, the Big 12 has been a historically strong conference, but with the exception of Vince Young's Texas squad, I haven't seen much from them on the national scene. Just ask "Big Game Bob" at OU. There is a reason that the SEC has won 5 NC's in a row, and shortly it will be 6. It's called solid defense, and it AIN'T just because the SEC has "weak offenses", as much as some would like to think so. It's true, with the exception of some years at Florida and Tennessee, that the SEC plays more conservative offensive schemes, but there are very good RB's, QB's and WR's as well, who can easily put up points on a weak defense. And generally when SEC defenses DO meet "high flying offenses", their point totals drop drastically.

Finally - if the Big 12 is Soooo strong and should be the envy of all other conferences, why aren't other teams beating the door down to get in? Usually I hear some lame excuse like "Texas isn't playing by the rules" - well "waaaaaaaah!" I see 4 teams that have left, or have decided to leave in the last few years: Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, Missouri. The Big 12 had to change TCU's mind to add a new member, and is still shopping.

Big 12 dominance. Indeed!

LSU and Alabama are THE TWO BEST TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY!

That is a fact, regardless of the stretch arguments you OSU fans throw out to the contrary. Iowa St alone should settle the argument. I'll give you some points regarding the OSU players playing that game with heavy hearts, but I'm not ready to say that was the only reason for the loss. If Bama loss to a 5-loss team, we wouldn't be having this argument.

Bob

Talk about a filibuster, as osu is a joke said, you are delusional. You can come up with any pro big 12 fantasies you want but it all comes back to one thing, beat a weak Iowa St. team and then maybe you have an argument. Oh yeah, play some defense too. The last 5 years of SEC championships should have taught you and everyone else one thing, that defense wins championships. Not running up the score on teams like Kansas, Baylor or Texas Tech. If you need a history lesson look back at the Florida Ok BCS game a few years ago. I think they referred to the Ok offense as something like the point a minute offense. Well I guess that would have been true if the game had only lasted 14 minutes.

Losing to LSU is no disgrace no matter where it occurs, especially in overtime. If you look back at the history of the Alabama LSU games, you will find that the visiting teams have been very successful in this series. That game was in doubt for both teams and could have gone either way so no matter who lost it, I don't think you could declare without a doubt who is the best team. Based on both teams records they are about as most even top 2 teams I have ever seen. If it weren't for the fact that the two best teams in the country are Alabama and LSU and that they should be the ones to play, I would love to see ok st. play Alabama or LSU. I think it would result in another chapter in the long line of disappointments for the big 12 and once again expose the big 12 as an overrated no defense league. I could care less about the computers, they can be manipulated by the programmers and have no place in a rankings system. I personally would like to see a playoff but until then the two obvious best teams should play and those two teams are Alabama and LSU.

Beat Iowa St. and you would be #2 right now based on an undefeated record. Ok st. could have celebrated that ranking until this weekend when they will lose to Ok as usual.

As for Johnny, sec defenses may be boring to folks who only want to see offense but they do produce championships and, while you may find it boring a lot of us like defensive games. As far as the “ole sec hicks need to catch up and learn to play real football” line, I can’t believe that someone from Oklahoma would actually say that. Either way, based on the championships the sec has won, 2 against big 12 teams, I thing the sec is doing fine.

All comments aside, good luck to you guys this weekend in what I know is a big game. I have never lived in Oklahoma, but I’m sure that this game is as big to you guys as the Auburn game is to Alabama.

Bama is the best 1 loss team in the country. Heck they are in my mind the best team in the nation period. The only reason they are not #1 is because of a blown call by the refs. I was at the game seven rows up in the North endzone which is where the supposed interception took place.Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles could have seen that was no interception. Then with the best back in the NCAA and first and ten from the half yard line, Trent would have scored and the the discussion would have been whether LSU deserved to be in the BCS Championship game. And the answer would be yes. Bama And LSU are the top two teams in the strongest conference. OSU's wins over their "ranked oponents" being reason to be #2 are a joke. Those teams couldn't make it in the SEC. Mark my word, Alabama will be in the title game no matter what OSU does to OU. Not because voters are on the Bama band wagon but because they ARE one of the best two teamsin the nation. Come on, if you discount the bad call, they lost to the #1 team in the country by only 3 pts.LSU would Murder OSU. You think the LSU Bama Game was boring, LSU OSU would be 10 times more boring , even if you were an LSU fan!

Maybe bama will play lsu and then we can get something done wth the bcs system to get a playoff. The tv rating for that rematch of a previously boringest game I have ever seen in 50 years of watching college football. I pity the tv station that tries to promote that yawner of a game. Big deal if they have great defenses so what. Offense is great to watch and defense sucks to watch case closed. I would 100 times rather see the OSU game vs ou than a sec dud, blah we have a good defense blabber game. Who cares and wait til you see the tv ratings if such dud comes to tv, by the way it shouldn't be telelvised. SEC defense most boring product on the football field. You ole sec hicks need to catch up and learn how to play so good football.
