I'm a lifelong fan of OU football, and I loudly and persistently broadcast its triumphs to the Badger fans among whom in live in Madison, Wisconsin. But I share with some of your correspondents the disappointment of seeing talent-rich Sooner teams, favored by 20 and 30 points, collapse before inferior teams that make that defeat worse by failing to beat any other team of consequence. I blame the head coach, the guy who is supposed to prepare the team for reality. And Stoops, despite his considerable gifts, doesn't do it with the consistency that one with his salary owes the program, the fans, and his financial backers. My all-time favorite OU coach: Vernon Louis Parrington with an 83.3% winning record.

Les Miles is from Ohio and played at Michigan ! Mark Richt was born in Nebraska ! and, Urban Meyer is also from Ohio and played at Cincinnati......why don't you look closely at how many games these guys have lost in their head coaching careers and how many conference championships they have won. All OU fans are upset about this season, but give the coaching staff , especially, Bob some credit will you ! again, look at college football and you will see top coaches getting beat all the time.....deal with it. If you choose to judge a guy on NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS you will never be happy my friend.

Stoops and every other coach in college football and basketball is vastly overpaid. It is interesting that we have one person defending his salary, but at the end of the day he is a state employee. That is the state's money being spent. We have starved every other area of government why not football?

OU is 8-2 this year. A lot of OU fans--I am one--figured before the season that OU would lose 2 or 3 games. But FSU and Texas would have been among them. OU dominated FSU and Texas, demonstrating that the talent was perhaps better than expected. So an undefeated regular season started looking like a reasonable expectation. But the losses to Tech and Baylor are not part of reasonable expectations. They are inexplicable and inexcusable. And the buck stops with the head coach--Bob Stoops, who lately seems to be saying that Baylor had more talent than OU did.

Almost every year since the 2000 national championship, Bob has gotten badly outcoached by a coach who makes about 1/5 what he makes, and who has a far less talented bunch of athletes. In 2001, it was the loss to an OSU team that finished 4-7. In 2002, it was another loss to OSU, with the vaunted Mike Stoops defense being lit up to the tune of 38 points. In 2003, it was Kansas State laying a 35-7 licking on the so-called best team in college football history. In 2004, it wasn't an inferior team, but instead a team with equal talent, and USC beat OU 55-19, and Bob's players clearly quit about midway through the second quarter. In 2006, it was Boise State, with its first-game coach Chris Petersen. In 2007, it was Colorado, one of Dan Hawkins' 19 wins in 5 years in Boulder, and West Virginia, operating with yet another first-game coach--a guy who would prove to be ineffective at winning any big game other than against OU. In 2008, Bob got outcoached by equally well-paid Urban Meyer in the BCS championship game. In 2009, it was four losses that would have been wins if OU had had a kicker capable of kicking field goals longer than PATs, but inexplicably, there was no one on the roster who fit that description. In 2010, it was inexplicable red-zone failures against Missouri and Texas A&M. Now, in 2011, it's losses to bottom-feeding Texas Tech and to Baylor.

Losses (although not blowouts) against coaches like Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, and Urban Meyer are understandable. But guys who get paid a lot less than $4.4 million a year can lose to Dan Hawkins' Colorado, to Tommy Tuberville's Texas Tech, and to anybody's Baylor.

I wish Stoops would do what's best for the program and make the necessary changes that are long overdue in regards to the defensive coaching staff. Also, a coach being paid 4-5 million dollars per year should NEVER say they got outcoached! And Coach Stoops has said that on more than one occasion this year.

I'll tell you why Stoops is growing old in Norman. He is a jerk. He is personally very arrogant, won't answer straight questions at press conferences, and when he is interviewed on the little sideline dealy on national telecasts, he comes across very badly. He ain't from around here as they say. He talks funny. Basically he's a Yankee as far as people around here think of such folk. Therefore he either needs to be a nice guy or win a national championship at least every 5 or 6 yrs or he may as well hit the road. He is the highest paid employee of Oklahoma in history but he thinks he's too important to talk to people or answer questions pertaining to his job for people. So I think Oklahoma fans and taxpayers have the right to wonder if they are getting their money's worth regardless of how he may compare to other coaches.

OU sure is doing better than the decade before Stoops showed up.....people amaze me. One year, we overachieve and win the Big 12 with a WR at QB and Stoops is the greatest and now OU probably, realistically, is NOT as good as the hype machine made them out to be, and Stoops is just a good coach.....clueless fans that do NOT represent Sooner Nation as a whole(thank God).
