Totally agree with the comment about how perplexing it is that a program like OU can't find a reliable placekicker. And how could the coaches have overestimated Lynn's ability? Don't they see him in practice everyday?

If this game was played anywhere else beside Norman, I'd understand. Truth of the matter is that the Sooners got got; excuse my terminology, but you get my point. Tech needed to play a "near perfect" game to win, and they did just that. They could do no wrong that night. Kudos to them. The next three games (Kansas State, Baylor, Texas A&M) will tell us more about this Oklahoma team.

MM14 hit the nail on the head. This isn't just Venables' problem or an injury problem. This has been an ongoing problem for several years now, and no particular person is to blame. It's a team problem. In 2007, in 2010, and now this year, the Sooners dropped games against inferior opponents because they just weren't focusing (and that doesn't even include the bowl games against Boise and WVU). The Sooners play down to their opponent, lose focus (especially on special teams), and let themselves get in a hole. Against Mizzou and Kansas, they got away with it. But after those games I knew they would lose if they played that way against a better team. It didn't take long for that to happen.

OU has plenty of talent both in the players and the coaches. Nobody needs to get fired. They're not lacking in terms of personnel or coaches. What they lack is focus and drive, especially in games that aren't very big, like the Tech game. This will probably keep happening every season until they find a way to come together as a team and focus on what they're doing every week.

Not a surprise given OU to date hasn't played a good team. You got it right look at the records of who they've beaten, doesn't give one much comfort! Oh by the way, just as well they get out of the national hunt now. NO WAY can they stay on the field with LSU or ALABAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OU fan living in SEC country.

There is obviously on-going problems with Sooner teams in recent years not staying focused each week. Certain teams you can get by with it, but if you want the crystal you gotta work hard just as hard each week no matter what team you are playing. You gotta have the same drive against Tech as you did against Texas and Florida St. It was a matter of time before a team came up and bit this squad. I knew after the Missouri game that the problem of not staying focused each week hadn't been fixed. Most teams that win the national title show up each week and play lights out no matter what team they face. Travis Lewis, Landry Jones, and Bob Stoops even said that week they didn't practice good before the Missouri game. THAT IS INEXCUSABLE IF YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THE MOST ELITE PROGRAMS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL!! Plus, we can't use an excuse that we had players out. LSU have had most of their best players off and on out this season due to legal issues and drugs and they still blow every team out that they play. I'm not saying I want punks like they have on our team, but I do wish we had the drive they have. I know they aren't getting that much better players from a recruiting standpoint. Therefore, a good portion of the team (not all of our players) didn't want it bad enough. Coaches need to evaluate where this habitual problem of losing focus and drive comes from and fix it!

Venables has got to go! Why is Stoops so loyal to this guy. He can't call a consistent defensive scheme to save his life. Instead of making changes to the plan he just sits there and watch's the game go into the toilet. How may screens had to be run by Tech for large gains before he makes an adjustment, oh wait he didn't. I know there's lots f blame to go around, but Venables should be on top. Stoops WAKE UP! your brother Mike is looking for a job. Is it any wonder that we haven't been won a BCS title game since he was the defensive coordinator?? Get rid of Venables and start coaching!
