Great article and accurate too.
I played in that game and we were met with a crowd of 4,000 when we arrived,coach Speegle said “Boys enjoy this win because we go to
Nebraska next week and lose, there will not be
anyone here.” We lost 14-0 and he was right, no one there when we got back to Stillwater.

Steve, I agree that attending an Army, Navy, or Air Force
home game is very special; I have attended an Army-Navy
game in Philadelphia and an Air Force-Navy game in
Annapolis. Everyone needs to attend such a game.
Every player suited up for those games is a real student.

Thanks for bringing the OSU-Army game back to life;
in those days, three of us travelled to the road games
in Pistol Pete’s VW bug with Steve O’Neil, Ed Dobson
(Pistol Pete), myself, all the radio remote equipment,
and Pistol Pete’s “head” packed inside. I vividly
recall travelling to Little Rock for a night game
(we lost) and travelling to Austin for a night game
(we lost). Ed and I lived in East Bennett Hall and
Steve lived on fraternity now.

I especially liked the part about the final score being chimed out over the campus bells… Wow, what a change from me following the OSU-A&M score on my BlackBerry while helping coach my daughter’s softball game.

I was at that game! My family lived in the NYC area and we drove up to West Point often for games, as my dad, a native Oklahoman, loved college football. I was just 18, but remember in vividly. West Point is still the best venue for CFB, a beautiful stadium.
