The real reason why WRs dominated the kickoff return game in the early 2000s:  back then the WRs were better athletes with better brekaway speed.  For example the RBs during that period were Quentin Griffin (not a burner) and Kejuan Jones (he ran like he was in quicksand).  Not exactly what you want returning kickoffs.  True, when A.D. came on the scene he would have been spectacular returning kicks, but evidently Stoops did not want to risk his bellcow to injury (however A.D. did return kicks in a couple of really big games like OU-Texas).]]></description>
