Texas A&M has more problems than vanity. But it's a big one. If they go to the SEC, the SEC will begin to recruit in Texas A&M's back yard. Texas will open up for the big SEC schools. So A&M will have to recruit against the SEC schools.

The competition in football will be greater. A&M has had one good year in the last few years. So I can not understand why they believe increased competition will make them better. Texas has not kept A&M down, they have done it to themselves by poor hiring choices and other issues.

I do believe that OSU is entering the best years. I think the program will continue to improve. As a fan, I no longer wonder what players on our opponents team are hurt, or how much luck we will need to win the next game. Instead, I know that we have a chance to win every game we play. We won't win them all, but when the game starts, I know they have a legitimate chance to win it, no matter who we play. That's a big difference.

A&M can not recruit with an OU program that is winning.

They flourished, somewhat, in the 90's. But both UT and OU were in down periods. RC Slocum was able to recruit.

When both OU and UT got their act together, A&M disappeared.

A&M people know this, this is why they want to go SEC. They know they can not recruit against UT, but they think they can recruit on an OU level if they were SEC members.

They are not competing with UT, they competing with OU for players in Texas.

And their " Texas Vanity " keeps them from recruiting nationally on a large scale. They've signed one or two players from outside Texas in some years, but they still want to win with Texas HS players.

As SEC members, they can sell Texas HS players that they are representing the state of Texas in the SEC conference and appeal to the great pride those folks have in their state.
