Big 12 football: ESPN, Fox collusion troubling
The Longhorn Network is getting another game for its stash of content. Fox has allowed ESPN to move one of Texas’ conference games to the Longhorn Network.
Call it a can of worms. On both sides of the Platte, a million Nebraska fans are smiling, and this time, you can’t call them crazy.

Oklahoma State's Tracy Moore (87) is brought down by Texas' Christian Scott (6) during the college football game between the Oklahoma State University Cowboys (OSU) and the University of Texas Longhorns (UT) at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, Saturday, November 13, 2010. Moving a Big 12 game to the Longhorn Network will cause quite the uproar this season. Depending on the opponent, it could be a firestorm. If it’s, say, Oklahoma State or Texas Tech, that means fans of the Cowboys or the Red Raiders possibly could have to subscribe to the Longhorn Network to see the game.
Big 12 spokesman Bob Burda said ESPN, which is a partner in the Longhorn Network, has agreed to make a “best effort” to get the game placed in the market of Texas’ opponent, which would minimize the damage. But it’s a PR fiasco.
Just what Nebraska warned could happen is happening. The Texas network is causing all kinds of problems. And here’s the kicker. It’s not even Texas’ doing.
The blame for this lies at the feet of ESPN and Fox Sports Net. ESPN hatched this idea, trying to build subscribers to the network and recoup its $300 million commitment. But Fox had to sign off. Fox owns the cable rights to Big 12 football; except for one game a year per school, which will almost always be against a rumdum opponent, ABC/ESPN and Fox own the rights to the games.
If a game is going to be on cable television, it’s going to be on Fox Sports Net, or FSN has to grant a waiver. FSN granted a waiver for the Longhorn Network.
FSN had its reasons. Sources say Fox in 2012 wants to move at least one game to big Fox — its over-the-air network, which televises the NFL and Major League Baseball. Big Fox long has been mentioned as a possible destination for Big 12 football; heck, I’ve been mentioning it myself for years. The Big 12 on Big Fox is an idea whose time has come.
But not at this cost. The indignity of OSU or Tech or Baylor or whoever having to play a game on the Longhorn Network, with UT announcers, is not good for conference morale.

As a Texas Tech fan, it makes me ill to think that we would have to play on the Longhorn Network; however, it will be extra sweet when we kick their tails in DKR’s house, on their own network.
Agree, this is bad. I hope the Sooner Network gets done soon and better. I feel bad for the Pokes or whoever but if it is going to be dog eat dog, the Sooner Network needs to get going too.
Allowing Universities to have their own network is detrimental to the leagues in which they play and should not be allowed. If the major networks want to have a Conference network, great. But, not for individual Universities.
We miss our Big 8 foes and even Tech and AM. Good luck with ur future, I’d expect more of the same, this is just a start. Here is to meeting you in a bowl game.
BBBAAWWW! Sorry I don’t mean to come off mean spirited but this is exactly what Nebraska warned the whole conference about. Now it’s happened, it will happen some more. Just keep in mind though that Texas doesn’t share the revenue from the Longhorn Network with the rest of the schools. It all belongs to them. So in other words the opponent in this game doesn’t get squat for TV revenue!
Ha! That’s karma for OSU kicking in. Remember those “mini” packs of season football tickets one had to buy in order to get a single ticket to the OU game in Stillwater? Well, OSU fans now get a taste of their own medicine by having to buy the longhorn network to watch their team play. Pretty similar rotten deal they started.
ESPN wasn’t going to pay $300 million for one game. The only home game Texas has with a Texas school is Tech. Raider fans will literally have to pay Texas to see their team play. It’s going to get worse not better.
Golden rule in play here. He who has the gold makes the rules.
Not a chance I would pay UT to watch my team on their network. Hate this conference and saw this Garbage coming long ago. Can’t get out of the Longhorn conference fast enough.

[...] OK, apparently Nebraska fans aren’t so crazy or conspiracy-minded about Texas long-held desire to rule the world of the Big 12. Check out this piece from Berry Tramel’s blog, http://blog.newsok.com/berrytramel/2011/07/07/big-12-football-espn-fox-collusion-troubling/ [...]
Say it ain’t so…BWAHAHAHA — Note to the nine little sisters in the Big Texas Conference…you reap what you sow. Here comes the harvest.
OU and Texas greed killed the conference, just a matter of time before our poor “student-athletes” will have to fly across the country for a softball game to satisfy conditions of a lucretive contract. Greed sucks David.
Couldn’t the game be T A&M? or, OU? After all ABC/ESPN are the same and OU will do whatever UT orders them to do.
But Berry, I thought the Big XII was all lovey-dovey now that the problem, Nebraska, was gone?
http://newsok.com/once-divided-big-12-all-lovey-dovey-since-nebraskas-departure/article/3580112
Hrm… No one seen this coming?
The writing has been on the wall for a very long time. How did the SWC turn out?
Same Players, new field…
All the writing on the wall was for Texas to make the big power move once Nebraska was out of the conference. I honestly thought that they would wait longer, at least a couple months, to relish in the “Hate on Nebraska” movement before they pushed their agenda forward. I guess there must be a sense of urgency…we’ll at least you don’t have to worry about the crazy conspiracy minded Nebraska fans anymore:)
So, in the future, all 10 schools will get their own individual networks, and fans will have to subcribe to the networks of their away opponents to get to see all the games? Seems to be the road we’re on…
I think we should wait to see the final result before we commence civil war. If the eventual game is Baylor, fine, they should have never been in the Big XII to begin with. If it is Tech, OSU, or even for that matter, a team like ISU or KU, it is time for Texas to keep this longhorn crap in ooc games, and if that means they have to put the bite on UCLA or BYU fans, fine…might as well longhorn hatred go outside conference borders. OU and OSU need to have a contingency plan because this situation is never going to rest until Texas is isolated or affiliated with another conference. Texas in the current real world is a second tier program, and about everyone, including lowly KSU and ISU who are able to defeat the vaunted Horns need not kiss their arrogant butts. Blame FOX all you want, Berry, but the fact remains, Texas desires for everyone to kneel at their throne and kiss their butts. OU needs to make its own way, and if that means carrying OSU along, fine, but pee on Texas.
#1. Um, Berry, didn’t you JUST POST 13 days ago about how with Nebraska gone everything was “all lovey-dovey”? http://newsok.com/once-divided-big-12-all-lovey-dovey-since-nebraskas-departure/article/3580112
#2. Didn’t Texas destroy a conference once before? Anyone notice a pattern here and feel any different about Nebraska leaving now?
#3. So, is it a (Nebraska) “conspiracy” if it is true?
Big 12 North, your voting alliance with Texas just cam home to roost. You made your bed, hope you enjoy financing Texas football.
Isn’t this what you guys voted in favor of last year? The Harlem Globe Trotters League? How can you have a legitimate Conference when the Ring Leader thinks they’re the Norte Dame of the South?
The new Big12 (minus 2) will surely implode faster than predicted now, and the South ND will go fishing for another Conference to destroy or simply end up like the real ND and become an Independent ‘Legend’ in their own narcissistic minds.
Texas will make money when and where it can. This kind of behavior is not healthy for a conference, and will create more ill-will between the BIG 12 powers. Oklahoma is the biggest football name in the conference and they take a back seat to Texas. I envision Texas A&M and Oklahoma secretly joining the PAC 12 or SEC and leaving Texas holding the bag with the remainder of the Big 12 schools that don’t have the power / name / tradition to leave.
Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa State stick in the Big Texas conference becasue they have no other choice. How much is Texas football or basketball or baseball worth in that stripped down conference.
Oklahoma would dominate the Pac 12 – Texas A&M recruiting would become dominate in the SEC.
Who is this Nebraska you speak of, we used to play them in important games in the 70′s and 80′s right?
How do the 9 little misfits feel now about voting 11-1 against Nebraska? Great huh? All the colluding and under hand Texas politics aimed at marginalizing Nebraska is going to start backfiring on the 9 little sisters!
Great job cowing up to bevo! Enjoy your misery.
Yo Dingle Berry, get one thing straight. We as in Texas rules this conference. Oklahomo may take a few wins here and there, but we all know it’s because OU loves to cheat. Your teams were and are built on Texas talent. If you think you can do better in the PAC-12 or SEC be our guests. Just remember UT is your master.
“Who is this Nebraska you speak of, we used to play them in important games in the 70′s and 80′s right?” – 70′s & 80′s??? I guess you didn’t play in any important games against the Huskers in the 90′s because you couldn’t even compete in any of those contests.
To imagine that OU and TAMU are going to sneak out of the conference is a pipe dream. OU and OSU are married due to the state basically requiring that they remain in the same conference. Same for UT & TAMU.
OU may dominate the PAC-12, but who cares?!?! Anyone can dominate that joke of a league. The only team that was any good out of that league had to cheat their way to the national championship game to play another cheating team (I guess it really does pay to cheat in college football nowadays…). TAMU would struggle against the SEC. They already struggle in the Big 12 (haven’t won the south in the past decade) so there is no way they would compete in the SEC, which had the last 5 NCs.
The only way for the Big 12 to fix the problem is for every other team to stand up for themselves and vote against UT. Take the power away from them by out voting them on every issue. I never really understood why every school felt so compelled to appease UT?!?! If they are doing something you disapprove of, vote against them! If all of the old Big 8 teams vote against UT, they can control the fate of the conference. No need to worry about UT running away because the state has basically said the UT and TAMU must stay together, and likely would want to keep TT with them as well.
Grow a pair and do what is best for your own school instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing and fretting about how you can’t change it.
This story is absolutely priceless…and nobody but Nebraska saw this coming!! Goes to show, when you negotiate from a position of desperation like the little sisters did, this is what you get.
The Whornes will be feeding you crap for the next 10 years and telling you its ribeye. And guess what,? You’ll eat it too!!
Good Luck to the soon to be defunct Big 12
Well that was a short “lovey-dovey” honeymoon. I predict a third Texas divorce. Much sooner than 15 years though. SEC/PAC-12 here we come…
Hey little sisters of the little 12, how are those 11-1 votes against NU looking now?
Your sorry house of cards will collapse quickly enough now that the sole voice of reason in the conference has departed for much, much greener pastures.
Former members of the Big 8, especially OU: sorry you sold us out. Oh well. Enjoy yourselves.
That didn’t take long, huh?
We don’t feel like smiling, Berry. We feel quietly, mirthlessly vindicated.
And it’s just going to get worse…and worse…and worse…
Just think how much worse it will get when the Horns can finally start beating us on the field. They may ask us to support their own network from which they collect 100% of the revenue. Wait… they just did that.
Guys, maybe we should actually *discuss* these issues when Dan brings them up for discussion. I’m starting to think our commish is just a mouthpiece for UT. This could be bad for us in the future. Gosh I wish Nebraska were still in the Big XII. Maybe they would actually stand up and raise some concerns. Bevo looks a little scary to me…
I wonder if the Big XII ADs and presidents will ever realize that Texas only has one vote, while the rest have a total of nine.
Worst case scenario – KU, KSU, ISU, MU, BU, and Tech/OSU side together to have a 6-4 majority.
But instead, let’s leave the robber baron alone in the bank vault.
Yep, not gonna miss the NU peeps one single bit. We’ll see how the enjoy being middle of the pack in the Big 10. Equality my arse.
Tom Osborne warned that the Big12 was tilting dangerously towards 1 school. From the conference champ. game … to academic rules and TV deals – all tilted towards 1 school. So Nebraska stood strong and fought the hard fight. A state with 2.8 million people and 1 die hard fan base hell bent on football took on the other state with almost 40 million people. What did the rest of the Big12 do? They decided to hitch their wagons to tu and keep voting 11-1.
In the end we couldn’t beat TX politics but we did stand our ground. Texas didn’t budge. Nebraska got an offer from the most prestigious league and bolted.
Jesse Mahan, Mike, Buhl, Tap Dance Man, Toeman and Blade are so salty right now. Hewwwwwwww

@hornguy – I believe the expression is “sour grapes”. And I agree. NU *definitely* wants back in the Big XII.
Hey Jay you forgot the smiley at the end of your sentence about NU wanting back
That had to be the funniest thing I’ve read on this blog so far!
Damn it Oklahoma…..the writing is ALL OVER THE WALLS NOW! Get out and save your great program. I would hate to see you fall down because of Texas greed. YOU ARE BETTER!!
@MK – I’m serious! Without Beebe and UT, the NU fans have lost their nemesis(es). Just look at the outpouring of responses here. Like an itch you just can’t scratch, you will miss us.
Jay…. um… NO – your league is DIEING because NU left.
NU will NEVER move to another conference EVER. The B1G is the OLDEST and most tradition laden conf. on the planet – both in football and ACADEMICS!
Duh!
I find it helps to read Berry Tramel’s articles in the voice of G.D. Spradlin, the actor who played Sen. Pat Geary in “Godfather Part II” and the coach in “North Dallas Forty.” Just once, I’d love to see Berry say “Core-lee-OH-nee” on one of those Oklahoman videos.
HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Well, how about that, Nebr was right!!
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHahahahahhahhhahaHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH.
Texas Tech Coach was right, Big 12 will not survive!!!!
HA HA HA HA AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Hi, I’m Texas!!
You know, SWC, BIG 12, ………..
OK, WHO’S NEXT ????????????
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
When Tom Osborne called Texas out on the carpet, and called their Adm. a bunch of SCUMBAGS, he was right!!!
The biggest BRAND in the BIG 12 was NEBR., now you nothing!
We’re not smiling, we’re LAUGHING!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH
I don’t even want my favorite team who is the mizz tigers in the big 12 (big texas)anymore. Thought nebraska was full of it but just mayb they r right?
You have to consider the long-term ramifications of this. ESPN is making a 20 year, $300 million dollar investment. The network is the ultimate extension of the Texas ego. Both will do whatever it takes to make sure it works. Why Joe C. and others didn’t raise more opposition to it in the early going is beyond me. No conference games should be allowed to be on a single school network. This tactic was used by ESPN when they rolled out ESPN 2 and used by the Big Ten Network.
This is just football season. Expect more games like this during basketball season. A mid-week OSU-Texas or even OU-Texas game. It might be shown in OKC and Tulsa but it might have Longhorn Network branding all over it.
As a Nebraska fan, it truly sickens me to think that this greed could damage wonderful programs such as the Sooners.
I think the BIG XII still has a lot of decent programs and I sincerely hope this doesn’t spiral out of control and ruin everything.
Best of luck BIG XII. Fight for what’s right. GBR.
Tom Osbourne also thought the “N” onthe side of the helmet stood for “nowledge” — I said that twenty some years ago…
This news is getting a lot of pub in Nebraska, for obvious reasons. I’m not here to rub it in anybody’s face, I just think it’s sad to see the Big XII on the precipice of implosion.
Nebraska, and other Big Xii schools had 2 options:
1. Eat cow pie, and publicly say they liked it…
2. Throw cow pie at UT and ride off into the sun-set
HI-HO-Silver… and away!
(yummy?)
Well the Big 12-2 honeymoon sure didn’t last long–I would have thought this sort of action would have been delayed until after the 2011 season but apparently Longhorn arrogance knows no limits. As a Husker fan I’m thrilled to be gone from the 12-2 but I feel for the former Big 8 schools…they deserve better, even if they should have know what would happen by supporting Texas. OU should seriously consider their options, and I’m not talking about a Sooner network. For KU, KSU, MO, ISU good luck! GBR!
UT fans…how would you feel if NU were still in the conference and started their own network? Then televise the UT vs. NU game on the “Husker Network.” Of course this game would only be available on said network. Would you purchase this network on your cable/satllite provider? Would you be happy about it?
Nice work T.O. for being proactive.

“Is this a form of trickle down economics?”
HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!
That slayed me – particularly since this inevitable insult to the Big 12 is coming from the heart of the “Lets secede” home of rock ribbed conservatism!
Barry:
Like I warned you in your email last week, Boone Pickens needs to pony up for a Cowboy Network. I am glad the Huskers left!
OMG what is the big deal? I’m sorry Husker fans, but just keep quiet and go comment on the b10 ladders and that’s coming from a homer. Leave the big12 to it’s own devices and get on with life. It is no big surprise that Texas gets what they want, they are the biggest kid on the block from all the talk I hear. I will be watching with interest to see if OU does get a network going and those ramifications. OU is going to hammer on Texas and that will be on national TV! Ha, go SOONERS!
fyi KST should bounce them as well.
Why OU? Why did you go along with this? Why Big 8 members? Why vote against us? Why dogpile on Nebraska for an outsider? I never felt right about the Big 10 today. Dr. Tom Osborne was so right. We’re so lucky to have had him. And where did he learn his trade? The Big 8. You should’ve stood with us. We’ll miss you Sooners. We’ll miss you a lot. We wish you well Big 8. The time has come. You now must stand and fight for yourselves. We already tried. You wouldn’t fight with us then. . .
OMG!!!!!!
I’m from Texas, and yes, I’m a SCUMBAG!!!
OMG. OMG!!!!
OMG, what’s the big deal????????
WHAT AN IDIOT SHE IS, OMG OMG OMG.
This is a big deal, and anyone who is a Texas fan must be either downright stupid to think that Texas is the real deal.
THEY MUST BE THE MOST FOOLISH PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!
Who was that bright QB that Texas had a couple of years ago??? U know, the IDIOT who thought that “DAAA, I TOUGHT THAT DA CWOCK TOPPED WHEN DA BALL WENT PAST DA WINE OF SCWEMAGE????” This is the level of smartness of the average Texas mind.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
Did I say we r not smiling, but LAUGHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAA

What a bunch of fools.
Why OU? Why did you go along with this? Why former Big 8 members? Why vote against us? Why dogpile on Nebraska for an outsider? I never felt right about the Big 10 until today. Dr. Tom Osborne was so right. We’re so lucky to have had him. And where did he learn his trade? The Big 8. You should’ve stood with us. We’ll miss you Sooners. We’ll miss you a lot. We wish you well former Big 8 foes. The time has come. We’re off to better days. You who remain now must stand and fight for yourselves. We already tried. You wouldn’t fight with us then. . .
Husker, you’re making us look like idiots. Please shut it down.
I have no interest in rubbing anything in. I feel genuine sympathy for the plight of the schools lost in the long shadow of Texas’ seemingly insatiable greed. They will relinquish or concede nothing. And they will use their considerable clout to skew anything and everything towards their benefit, at the expense of everyone else and will use methods of intimidation to procure those things that they desire. Best of luck to the rest of the Big 12. I hold no ill will towards anyone…really, even, Texas. I just know who and what they are, and do not respect they way in which they go about their business. It is, by very definition, wholly self serving.
The obvious question that follows is, “Wouldn’t everyone do what Texas does if they were in their position of incredible advantage of resources (in vast wealth of in-state recruiting talent, a monetary base that would be the envy of almost any university, and impeccable facilities.”
Potentially. I’m not convinced that every university would have the conceit to brazenly hijack a conference, but everyone utilizes the advantages they have at hand, in all things. This, however that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, and it doesn’t make it right for the rest of the schools that suffer as a direct result of Texas benefitting. This is a big reason why Nebraska left. And when we left, we were lucky enough to land in an incredible conference. I hope things shake out as well for the rest of you. GBR
Right you are Nebula except “Husker” is a moron exposing only himself as the idiot. Good grief!
I am liking this Big 10 deal better every day.
GBR

The Big XII schools have two options:
Grow spines, stand up to UT and defeat the LN and create a conference network with equal profit sharing. (Vegas odds 1:300,000,000)
OR
Implode. (Vegas odds 1:1)
Never saw that one coming (sarcasm alert). Berry, we’re not smiling, I just picked myself off the floor from ten minutes of belly laughing. Y’all made my day. I’d feel sorry for y’all if you hadn’t done it to yourself.
Sorry Dudes,
Nebraska didn’t see this coming….. OU will do the same when they get their network up and running. The big question is what will happen when the other teams get their so called 8 team network deal? What will happen when teams want to put their game against OU or TX on it. But I’m sure OU and TX will want to put those games on their networks. It will be the biggest mess!!!
This will probably acclerate the end of the league….
Tom Osborne made excuses for losing. They knew they would never be able to compete with the south. So he chose to leave. NU is lucky tOSU will be down for the next few years. Wisconsin will be their biggest competition.

Eric — no need to deflect the fact that you and the remaining Big12-2 minions are suffocating in a big pile of whorn pie.
I’m really impressed by how you explain how OU and the little 8 will develop their own networks and then the Big12 fun escalates to a whole new level. Very comical prediction.
Enjoy the stink.
This little ordeal has the potential to accelerate the drive toward 16 team super conferences. The B12 will be gobbled up by other conferences. Being a Nebraska fan, I would truly love it if Texas came to the Big 10. Lets see how they do in a conference of equal revenue sharing (Like thats going to happen. lol) The truth about Texas is that considering their immense resources and large talent pool, they really aren’t anywhere as good as they should be year over year. (proportionately speaking) If you think about it…they have been incredible underachievers over their history.
You’re on my network and you’re mine bitches. We own everyone of you little bitches in the BIG XII. Bend over and take it like a lady.
BEVO
Husker, you’re an idiot. OU and Texas are both bigger brands than Nebraska. Also, Nebraska we didn’t sell you out, you sold us out by going to another conference for bigger riches. You talk about standing up to Texas but you turn and ran. Nebraska could have gotten more money in the Big 12 if they started performing up the caliber of OU and UT but they decided to go to a socialist conference where everybody gets the same money no matter how much they suck or how much they play on TV.
No, Sooner, you sold us out with every 11-1 vote, with every time you looked south instead of north. Now you’re reaping the whirlwind. Enjoy.
“Socialism?” A) you don’t understand the term; B), I’ll take the B1G’s so-called “socialism” over what Horn Dog, above, represents, any old day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Btw, OU will probably land on its feet when the smoke from the rubble of the little 10 clears. SEC, maybe? That wouldn’t be so bad, especially if you could get Bevo off the top of you. Could be some epic match-ups. Better than, say OU-Baylor.
Oh yeah, love it.Texas sucks more by the minute They’re choking to death on their own scummy greed.,Thanks God I’m a Husker fan.The Weinie Ten is dead.I’ll give you folks about two years to fold your tents and slither away. You can thank Beebe and Texas for this entire brain fart.
Are all of idiots? Did u all go to the same school, south of Texas? The Longhorn network is no different than the one we would have had in Lincoln. Do you really think anyone really cares if Texas and Baylor plays on that network. Or even Okie State or one of the Northern schools?
These comments are for fun and fun only.
But, don’t ever think that Texas or the Okies are a brand equal to that of Nebr. No one outside of Texas or Okie cares what happens to you. Our fan base is national, just ask MU. Mouzoo that for sure the Big10 would take them because they have “more TV sets” than the Huskers. We have a lot of sets around the country. No one can come close to NU for whats been done during the modern era of College Football; the era started, as the Bear said, “when black athletes started getting recruited, in the southern schools”, which began around 1970.
Enjoy your time in the Big12, with Texas in charge it’ll become the new SWC.
The writing on the wall is this a collusion agreement between foxsports, espn, and last, but not least Dan Beebe. Collusion is at the very least unethical, if not illegal.
Definitely an inside job.
Dan Beebe is such a creep. The way him and his Big 12-2 media slandered Osborne was atrocious and childish.
Also, he didn’t go up to Lincoln to present the Big 12 North championship title citing death threats. At first I took him at his word and expected a huge roundup of Husker fans that apparently threatened him. Turns out there was nothing there. Just blatant fabrication.
I truely feel pity for my friends and relatives in Missouri,Kansas and Oklahoma who seem stuck in a conference which is virtulaay in the toilet.I know there are intelligent people in the administrations of both Oklahoma and Missouri who shoild have the wisdom to, bail NOW.
Don’t worry Chris, what goes around comes around.
There’s something to Texas logic. They have a diff. way of thinking, they’re all a quart low. Just listen to them talk, they just don’t sound like they’re all there. They must be easy to control for a few smart people that lives in that state.
“Just what Nebraska warned could happen is happening. The Texas network is causing all kinds of problems. And here’s the kicker. It’s not even Texas’ doing.”
Why are you still protecting Texas? They signed the contract with ESPN – they knew this would happen.
I guess you do not have the nerve to Challenge Texas like Osborne did – no courage.
After reading this thread here is what I’ve taken away.
1. Nebraska fans are obviously and deservedly justified to gloat.
2. Apparently, according to fans, there will soon be 5-6 networks involved with the league. ESPN, Fox, Longhorn Network, a Sooner Network, a Cowboy Network and an Aggie Network. Just a bunch of stupid people trying to out-do each other. Plus the apathetic Big 8 North schools.
3. This could end sadly with a bunch of egotistical schools and fan bases thinking they could go independent and start their own network, i.e. falling off the face of the earth. See BYU.
Husker nailed it with his “What goes around comes around” statement.I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the N.C.A.A. launch an investigation into this current Texas generated GARBAGE.These people are quite obviously more interested in generating cash than the spirit of the game.Wheather their shell game is legal or not they have lost the respect of hundreds of thousands of sports fans.
I would suggest that the nine teams in the league that aren’t Texas invite Texas to leave and invite TCU to join. After all, Texas’ long-range goal is to join ND and BYU among the ranks of the independents, and TCU is a better fit. TCU in the Big East? They’d jump at the chance to play closer to home. The major problem is that OU would lose its decades old rivalry game, but that’s happened to other teams and they’ve survived.
How y’all boys like that new TEXAS Conference now. I should say the big 2 and the little 8 casue the only ones who will be playing for a conference title in the TEXAS conference will be Oklahoma and TEXAS. Boys you gotta put TEXAS in their place or drop em like a hot rock.
[...] Barry Trammel nails it in his blog for the Oklahoman this week when he talks about the collusion and other nefarious deeds going on right now between [...]
Wait a second. Five days ago Tramel writes an article stating the nobody outside of Austin will watch the LHN. I pointed out that it was a move by TX to go independent and screw what’s left of the Big 12. I got flogged for that.
A few days later we get this panic article that the network is ‘troubling’. Which one is it Berry? Take off your Big 12 homer t-shirt and realize what’s going on here. The other schools need to get as far away from the sips as possible.
never did like mack brown even at texas. when colt mcCOY WAS AT TEXAS 4 YRS NO MATTER WHO THEY PLAYED THEY WOULD RUN UP THE SCORE ON ANYONE JUST TOO MAKE TEXAS LOOK GOOD. now its coming back at them and biting them in tha buttttttt. ilove it. i remember in every game colt would stay in the game even though they was up like 70-21 on a non conference team who had no chance with 5 minutes in every game colt would finally leave and the first string as well. espn and texas are kissing cousins…….. hate texas too the core.
Everybody and their dead grandmother saw the writing on the wall a year ago (except for Berry). The Big 12 is over. Time to move on.
Let the horns go play with themselves and their stupid network. They’re good at things like that.
Good-bye Big12, another SWC for the Texas schools!
How can anyone be so dumb? Well mabe 10 schools.
All u can do is laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But Tyler, nobody cares!
It’s fun to take stabs at those scumbags. And scumbags they r.
Ask Tom Osborne.
1. Husker your an idiot. Quit using that as your name, your opinions don’t reflect that of Husker nation. Obviously you are in Lincoln but not at the University.
2. There will never be more than one school network in the Big 12-2. Texas is the only school with the market big enough to support their own network. Now that they have their network, there will be no Big12 network; too much competition. How would they possibly divvy up the games when ESPN and Fox get the rights anyway. Even PPV games are still Fox or ESPN games, just on that network. Why would they release another possible game or say 8 other games for the other schools networks?
Who follows football in Kansas? Hoops, sure might be enough to watch. Swimming at Baylor? Hockey at TTech? Women’s wrestling at Mizzou? The programming would be great with each school with their own network, but won’t happen.
3. I do think Texas tried to play the hero by “saving” the Big12, when all along they were half way out the door to the Pac-10 anyway. Once we left, they knew everyone else would fold to them. Sorry Big 8, but too late for your conference now. OU, A&M, will be fine, TTech, OSU will be ok, but the rest of you….. Sorry ISU, KU, KSU, Mizzou, Bay.
Could be a little worse, you could be Colorado.
I am confused?
Why does this cause the Big12 family issues?
This was already in the works and accepted by all the other institutions. This was brought up at the regional meetings as a possibility and everyone heard it. They just elected to dismiss it as a pipe dream.
I feel bad for some of the old big 8 teams who coulda, shoulda, woulda >>>> but never did. I suspect Missouri will bolt if the opportunity presents itself.
OU, well I do not feel sorry for them because they knew who they were sleeping with and just thought that after the great {SEX} they would awake the next morning and be apprciated by their mate (Texas), but they are not, they are being treated just like all the other dates in the big 12. Thanks for the good time, now beat it!
This is just the beginning. The T-sips are already in talks with Brenham High School to air their second game of the upcoming season on the LHN.
It’s a dangerous precedent if this is allowed. The ‘sips can talk to high school coaches and “ask” that they direct their players to go to t.u. in exchange for airing their high school games, and t.u. can promise to air a recruit’s games in exchange for a commitment, too.
This should be against NCAA rules if it already isn’t. There’s too much room for under the table deals.
Eric,
Your the biggest dummy of all the idiots. My opinion is shared by 99% of all educated Husker nation, they just don’t write it down. Any husker who feels anything for Texas is in your corner for the DUMMY OF THE YEAR! Anyone who feels badly for the other former big8′s, has no clue what’s been going on since Texas came on board. They chose for this to happen! They wanted Texas to get it all. How many 11-1 votes did they have.
Get a life idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You honestly didn’t think something like this would happen?!All the OU (and other Big 12 schools) fans and media bashing Nebraska… and now one of your “neighbor” schools (and their fan base) is going to get the shaft.
As for the equal revenue sharing vote, do you honestly think Texas would have voted for it if the Big 12 wouldn’t have allowed them to form their own network? They were against equal revenue sharing (just like NU) before they were ever able to create their own network! All this talk about everyone voting unanimously was a joke! Take away their Longhorn network and that never would have happened!
Do you honestly think Texas respects you or any other school in the conference? They might say the right things in the media, but behind closed doors they laugh at you just like they laughed at us. The program with the most money always rules the roost (which is ironic considering OU owned the Big 12…)
Even though you have the head-to-head against NU, we still respect you and your program. So trash us all you want, label us troublemakers, and be mad for everything we put the conference through – but at the end of the day, DeLoss and his boys are laughing all the way to the bank.
And that’s the funniest part of all.
I’m looking forward to a very competative and entertaining season with NU in the B1G. Texas made their bed. They and theirs will sleep in it.
Welcome Nebby fans to the B1G! Come this fall, all will be forgotten. Cheers!
Here is a point no one can argue; Tom Osborne is a genius.
First of all, did it make sense that after losing the Omaha, Lincoln, Denver, and a big part of the Kansas City market that the Big Twelve was poised to gain money period. Really, there isn’t a catch? It doesn’t add up does it. Almost feels like Amway doesn’t it?
Tom Osborne didn’t become this successful by being stupid. When he couldn’t save the Big Twelve he made sure Nebraska got out. We can just consider ourself thankful we have someone with integrity and smarts at this critical juncture.
Here is a quote for you. “When the going gets tough the tough get going and the smart left a long time ago.”
Barry, I would like to say that I am not smiling, rather that I am sad and upset over the apparant treachery of the Longhorns. In fact, I have resolved not to gloat and pop off with a string of “I told you so”…but like John Wayne in “McClintock” when he states “Mister, I ought to punch you in the mouth, but I won’t–I won’t…like hell I won’t!” I just can’t help it…TOLD YA TOLD YA TOLD YA!!!
The only suprise is that Texas sprung it’s little SUPRISE so soon. I would have thought that they could have at least shown some restraint and waited until next season, but that just wouldn’t be BEVO would it…
Good luck, OU.
All that needs to happen is for A&M to leave for the SEC with Missouri and leave the conference as the “Big 8″ again.
Does ANYONE know what this Longhorn Network is going to cost per month? I can’t find anything anywhere on it.
Dear my fellow big12 schools/brothers
husker fans are crazy n delusional and are stupid to come up with all the big12 conspiracy rumors. they want you to believe that we are taking the conference over and renaming it and making rules so that we benefit and get a bigger piece of the pie. just remember we stayed to work it out and have a big and bright future
your friendly big brother in austin
Bevo
hey other big12 fans when you final realize what texas is truly doing it will be too late. by then they will have all the game on the longhorn next work, rename the conference and outs who ever disagree or goes against their properganda. oh the reason why OU is keeping quiet is bc after getting handled by LSU n Fla in the national title game they rele dont want any part of the SEC that a guarntee 3-4 losses every year. so keep bashing neb and saying how we were scared, and couldnt stand losing to texas. just remember 2 big things: HUSKER DONT BACK DOWN HENCE HOW WE WANT THE RIVALRY WITH OU AND DIDNT RUN FROM IT LIKE THEY DID. second:TEXAS IS ONLY HERE BC BIG12 LET THEM HAVE THEIR OWN NETWORK, PAC10 SAID NO,SEC WOULD HAVE LAUGH THEM AWAY. enjoy the texas ten sorry excuse me i meant Blind12
[...] the Daily Oklahoman says the Longhorn Network taking a Big 12 Conference game from Fox Sports Net is opening a can of worms for [...]
This is just the stepping stone. OU is going to have their network up and running in 2012.
The Longhorn Network is now going to start airin Texas High Skool games. I promise we won’t use any of this as a recruiting tool. We will show the high skool games but never mention the Longhorn Network and University of Texas once.
ESPN might though.
Hmm…and now you all finally see how smart the Buffs and Huskers were to get out while they could. Both have far brighter futures ahead of them than the Mizzou, KSU, Texas Tech rejects of the B12-2
Laughing in Colorado – have you seen CU’s Pac-12 deal? $$$ Best of luck guys, seriously, OU and aTm will be just fine, and probably Okie Lite too, but for the rest of you – the Big12 is a sinking ship, hang on for dear life, but you’re going down. UT = conference killer, they’ll never stop making demands for more, no matter how much you give them. Thank goodness CU is out of this Texas-centric disaster of a league
This is comical. Eric is a typical dumb*** NU fan who slams Colorado just because the Buffs were the first to stand up to the red horde.
Colorado got the sweetheart deal. Big 12 will never get as much money as the Pac-12 (Big Fox went to the Pac-12, Berry deedle-dum: conference has 11 of top 31 cities in the nation I saw on CU’s website, TV sets lure the dollars. The Big 12 features dying cities and those too weak to jump off Texas’ arrogant coat tails). I hope OU and A&M rethink the SEC; Texas needs to be the bully left with no one to play with.
First off, carl is an idiot.. Dying cities??? I don’t think many of the cities in Big XII country are dying (Dallas-Ft. Worth, Tulsa, Houston, OKC, KC)… More of that could be said for the B1G Ten.
Secondly, I am sure glad NU made the break when they did… This is just the first small step to Independence in football for Texas. Adios Big XII
All those who accepted that the Longhorn Network would only air one non-conference game, are the same ones that tolerate one conference game because they believe it will just be against Baylor. What happens when they want a second one, or a third, fourth, etc. SOONER or later they will realize that this was only the beginning. ESPN didn’t pay $300 million for a few inconsequential games.
I don’t know why the other 9 keep turning around and saying “more please” after being reamed by Bevo. I guess that a conference filled with masochists and one giant sadist could work in theory. However, I don’t believe they enjoy it as much as think they have to take it. And some have no other choice. But I bet a few won’t be taking it much longer and the Big 12 will go the way of the SWC. And a Sooner Network along with a Little 8 Network is not the answer. This will only exacerbate the situation and accelerate the eventual demise of the conference.
In the end though, the disbanding of the Big 12 might be good for college football. Texas will get what they wanted all along – independence. The majority of college football fans may get what they want – a playoff. Conference realignment may result in four superconferences, each with a conference championship game, and the groundwork is set for a playoff system.
Oh yeah, and GBR!
How the Big 12 looks in three years: Missouri and Oklahoma to the Big Ten, Texas A&M to the SEC, KU and KSU to the Big East, Texas becomes an independent, and the rest join the Mountain West.
[...] news wasn’t well received – imagine Oklahoma State fans being forced to pay for the subscription-based network in order to [...]
Only way Big 12 ever had a chance was to have initially been forward looking enough to have been the Big 16 (which today would probably have been embraced). SWC should have kept Rice, TCu, SMU & Houston–there’s your south division. Big 8 remains north division and any interdivisional games are treated like non-conference foes. Gee…in that scenario, ya have an actual Big 16 title game where rematches don’t occur. Yup, Big 10 has some of the same goofy set up-but for now…doesn’t look like any one player is making the sandbox an unpleasant place to play in the neighborhood.
OU, OSU, Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC. Why would those schools want to stay in a conference and play second fiddle to the Longhorns, year after year? Sooner fans going to watch the Red River Shootout on the Longhorn network? Texas A&M going to sit by and watch Texas high school games being broadcast on the Longhorn network? Missouri fans going to watch their game with Texas on the Longhorn network? What a mess. Just glad Nebraska flipped Texas the bird on the way out the door.

At first I thought they’d put a game with KU or Iowa State on Longhorn Network, but since it’s going to be in the same market, it has to be Baylor.
