Berry, Real simply, you're right about OU being a very good team, but having holes that were exposed by USC, and that Auburn would have taken advantage of also - size at defensive tackle, speed at linebacker, quickness on the offensive line and most importantly attitude going into the game. It was a horribly embarrasing game.

Berry,

You lost me on this one. First, the reason that OU was in the game and Auburn wasn't can be answered by the schedule. Auburn played one of the weakest non conference schedules in history. Yes, they won decisively but look who they played.

Louisiana - Monroe - 31-0
Citadel - 33-3
La Tech - 52-7

and a 6-6 Alabama team.

It was so weak that even the SEC schedule could not get them in the game.

Amazing how all the OU homers are claiming OU would have defeated Auburn. OU couldn't even beat LSU in 2003, and Jason White barely survived against a terrible Alabama team pre-Saban.

Oklahoma fans are the biggest homers and worst fans of any college football program. BTW, I still can't get over how obese and sloppy the fans of OU were when they were in New Orleans getting their heads stomped into the ground on Bourbon Street for talking their usual trash going into the title game against LSU.

I'm glad to see Tramel being fair and giving credit when it's due. Auburn's schedule in the SEC was superior. There's no denying the fact that the SEC is the superior conference in college football, but this does not mean non-SEC teams are not capable of taking home BCS championships by any means. SEC teams do not need tough non-conference games during the regular season, because they already play the best of the best and often win BCS bowl games in the end against the best of non-SEC teams. The facts don't lie. At least Tramel is not just another homer who keeps his head in the sand and unfairly pulls for his home team. Great article by Mr. Tramel!

"Comment by jb on June 10, 2011 @ 1:09 am
USC was that good; they had the best team money could buy."

Do you even care about facts? USC did not pay its players and Bush did what he did on his own accord, without the knowledge of the team.

If the NCAA had to take its case to a real court, it would have been thrown out against USC because the NCAA's findings were based on heresay and no actual evidence of institutional involvement.

It doesn't matter what Bush did in his private life, it has nothing to do with results on the football field and it had no bearing on him being at USC.

Any of those players will tell you, USC was dominant and they probably would have smoked Auburn just the same. Just like they would have smoked LSU in 2003 and 2006/7 if they weren't left out of the BCS title game those years.

If there was a playoff, these "vacated" titles wouldn't be so hard to fill.

NO ONE deserves the title. It's vacated, that's the way it should be. Auburn could not have beaten USC on their best day, they didn't play for the title and don't deserve it. I also believe OU would have beaten Auburn any day of the week regardless of how bad they fell apart vs USC. USC was that good; they had the best team money could buy. Auburn played a weak out of conference schedule, and the SEC wasn't very good that year. So to even consider giving it to Auburn is ludicrous and ANYONE who thinks they should get it needs to have their head examined.

Berry, you wrote this like the decision had not already been rendered..."you can't rewrite history" but isn't that what you just did. The title has been vacated, it is history.
Did you mean to turn this article in last week?
