we will feature a number of backs this year, and many will feed into the hype of the big name backs…31 dominique whaley will be the featured back before its all said and done…finch and clay will mk their money in the flats n screens but whaley will be in the trenches, power to run defenders over and speed to take it the distance…fyi he graded out at #1 over demarco murray last year bt was ineligible. this kid is humble and hungry and the coaches knw they hv a rare jewel.

I think rushing stats for OU are misleading as all get out. Murray had about 600 “receiving” yards last year and truth be told at least half of those were really running plays. Now, that said, it’s undeniable that OU does not have a power running game. And that hurts. We saw that up close and personal last year in red zone scores. How many times did OU have to settle for a FG? Way too many. And that aTm game…..I think it was 5 possessions inside the 5 yard line with ZERO scores? Sad.

You would think we have NO backs, NO line and very little talent. Really? Gloom and doom. I’ll take what we have year after year and be glad for it. You can’t win every year. There are only about 100 other teams with the same aspirations as OU. Get serious and be thankful for what we have had for the last 60 years, with very few off years in between. Yes, 60 years of success and only the TOP program as rated by ESPN. BOOMER

If the o-line can get the job done up front, then OU will run the ball very well. Heupel is going to keep the offense as balanced as the players can enable it to be.

I’d be surprised if OU’s running game gets any better with a former spread QB (Heupel) as the offensive coordinator.

I can sure believe that OUr run game was no better in 2010 than in 09. It seemed like we were being continually “stuffed,” whether it was 1st and 10 or 3rd and two. We absolutely looked better in all the practice videos that I’ve seen this Spring, than in previous years. I hope the D Line can stuff some people, and not get beat around the end and up the middle like last year. OUr supposed success this year depends on the line play of both sides. That’s where it all begins! Boomer Sooner!

Would’a,Could’a,Should’a, means very little. It is what it is.
Sooners have a limited running game that shows little improve-
ment from season to season. They are a west coast offense team. The wish-bone had four ball carriers in the backfield, Stoops has one. Do the math. That’s what makes the SEC a solid contender for the title every season. QB’s that can carry the ball when needed and know how. When Stoops took over, that part of the offense vanished except for the season Bomar was there. OU QB’s, except for Bomar, aren’t physically
tough enough.

Barry, I know that a good QB will make the running game better. But basically the same OL is back from 09 and 10, which doesn’t scare anyone. When they’ve needed to run the ball on 3rd and short or on the goal line the last two years, it wasn’t pretty. Remember 08 on the goal line and everyone knew they were going to run and OU made a TD almost every time. I know it was spring ball, but you would have thought that Brandon Williams would have broken off at least one run. If they’re better, I’ll have to see it to believe it.
