Toby, Good Hire. Need Coach Merv to explain what they(OU) did
on plays to keep it in context. Toby can spot yard markers, but as to what block was missed, or why the running back was out of position, or the receiver cut off a pattern, you need Merv, or the late great Jack Mildren. JOX is missed.

I know Toby personally and have also been a long time fan of his. His hiring by OU is a major home run….out of the park!!! He’ll take their radio and media efforts to the next level because he’s a true professional and more importantly, a true fan of sports! Great job and great hire, OU!!! Go Sooners!!!

I am so glad you feel that way..Al and Traber were very negative about the yesterday. I think Toby is the consumate professional and will be a home run like you say. He’s young (which means he will be able to see the field for the next 20 or 30 yars0 and he’s full of enthusiasm about OU..he acts lie a ‘kid’ when it comes to OU and that’s the way I am as a Sooner fan..I become a screaming teenager for those few hours the team is on the field..I was so happy for Toby yesterday thought I would cry, then I tuned into Al and Traber and got ticked. They’re just jealous.

He seems like a nice kid and I’ve always enjoyed his work on the Sports Blitz–fact of the matter is I thought his role should have been expanded on that show. The fact Trmale is so gung ho on Toby is somewhat worrisome considering Trmale’s hiring record himself– but Toby seems like a hard worker and should be able to overcome the ‘Trmale endorsement factor’ per se. My only request would be for Toby to gently take his time deciding what his signature line will be. Brooks’ was ‘Jimminy Christmas’. Bob Barry’s was’How About Them Apples’, and I guess Dave Hunzicker’s is ‘Pistols Firing’….although I’m not sure what his intent is with that ‘Good Night Vienna’ blather.

Anyway– I wish Toby the very best as he becomes the radio voice of the Sooner Nation. Boomer Sooner!

Berry – thanks for expressing my thoughts exactly.I never expected a local hire but am very happy with the pick.

One thing that I would advise Toby to do (although I know my advice is not solicited) would be to go back and listen to some of Bob Sr.’s pre-osu game tapes. That would shown him how it needs to be done.

If Tramble endorses him i don’t know. Since Brooks left OU has not had a play by play man. No disrespect to Bob Barry – listening to him on the radio was brutal.

Rather surprised with the hire . You need someone who can get you excited. As far as i am concerned the jury is out. Thank goodness most games are televised.
