After reading through all these comments, I think people should acknowledge that both teams got what they wanted, which is a COMPROMISE, the foundation of all bartering.

1) This past summer, Perkins contacted his agent about playing in OKC. Boston can afford him, but he wanted to move to a younger team where he wasn’t #5 (even though ironically he wears no. 5).

2) Boston drafted Green in 2007, and traded him for Ray Allen. Green has always been in Danny Ainge’s sights. Look for the Celtics to give him a decent contract offer either this year or after the CBA talks are over.

3) Perkins is a good fit for OKC for DEFENSE. To quote Sir Charles, “It’s in the dictionary under D-E-F-E-N-S-E.” There are plenty of scorers on this team. Even Daequan Cook looks to be that 3-point shooter everyone is crying for.

4) You had to dump Krstic. He was the ONLY decent big free agent available in 2008, but he’s obviously not the guy, unless you’re counting on the “potential development” of Aldrich and Mullens.

5) The Thunder got the better end of this deal UNLESS Perkins can’t stay healthy. Only time will tell.

Perkins value is as a defender and rebounder playing alongside Garnett. Let’s see what he does without Garnett. As far as Perkins shutting down big men…Dwight Howard, without any offensive game, averaged 16 pts and 17 rebounds a game during the 2009 Celts/Magic plaoff series A series Garnett did not play in.

In the meantime, neither Perkins or Nate Robinson has played a game yet, the Celts have won their last four and Green put up 21 tonight.

Perkins is a solid defender and useful for the 1st 3 quarters of a game. But he rarely ever got to stay on the floor at the end of games and doesn’t play alot of minute in the 4th qtr, mainly bc he is an offensive liability. His main utility is playing man to man vs. offensive post players like dwight howard. Bynum/gasol had success against him, but he was effective a good chunk of the time against them. He also does tend to get into foul trouble. But a big Q is whether he logs many crunch time minutes for OKC. I would not call him a complete player. He’ll only score points against weak low post teams.

The Thunder is sooooo lucky to have Presti. It makes me feel good that we have the arichitect who built San Antonio. Let’s remember; we’ve got to beat the likes of Spurs/Lakers type teams to even make it to the party. That takes D. Big time. We should be much closer to mandating the offensive scheme’s used against the Thunder.

HE DOES HOWEVER PLAY EXCELLENT TEAM DEFENSE AND HE BENEFITS FROM THE CELTICS SYSTEM . DANNY AINGE IS A GREAT EVALUATOR OF TALENT AND HE HAS SCORED BIG IN THIS TRADE. Marc,

Did you forget who won the NBA championship last year? And you say Perkins and Garnet stopped the Lakers bigs?

In the five games that Perkins played in the finals:
he averaged 7 PPG and 7 RPG.
Gasol averaged 19PPG and 10RPG
A Crippled Bynum averaged 10PPG and 7RPG

Perkins will cause no problems for the Lakers as he never has.

And Eric Maynor doesn’t compare to Nate Robinson. Nate might not be a point guard, but if you OKC fans are interested in scoring Nate could easily average 17 a night if he got the right amount of minutes. Eric lacks everything Nate doesn’t. Nate can shoot the three, with a very good mid range game and is great on the fast break.

I’m annoyed reading people talk about how perkins isn’t the reason the gasol and bynum combo didn’t score 30 a night combined when they played the celtics. First off, Perk learned so many things from KG defensively. Together both KG and Perk stopped the lakers bigs, and many others, in there tracks working together on defense. When in most cases against other teams Gasol/Bynum were the reason other teams couldn’t keep up with the lakers. Many times in the playoffs and the regular season did Perk single handedly shut down dwight howard, limiting his effect on the game. Perk is a great team defender and a One vs. One defender. He’ll bring much knowledge to teach the other players at OKC an a attitude the thunder were missing, regardless of weather he’s “only” 6’10 or not.
