I can definitly understand why the coaches havent put their hands over not getting more teams for the conference. Especially the Big 12 south schools. Bill Snyder is smart. He understands that Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, and the other Texas schools have a much larger recruiting footprint with the gigantor state that is Texas.

But if your Mack Brown or Bob Stoops what benifit have you really gotten from the championship game, injuries, doubt, and a game that honestly is usually lack luster. As you can see I am a Longhorn alum and I didn't watch it this year. I watched last year obviously and the year before that but it always felt sterile.

Also now we will have a real tie breaking scheme with 9 conference games. The 2008 debacle was outrageous. It just shouldn't have happened. Also with the expanded schedule schools like Kansas, and Missouri can no longer luck out and just not have to play OU and UT (I know we sucked this year).

The Big 12 err, Big 12 eleven, err Big 12 err ten will be fine. And without a doubt it will be broken down even further with the TCU domino falling east.

Prediction SWC/Big 8 Indipendent Conference. OU, A&M, OSU, and Texas all have mandatory games with each other while they go around the country reeking havoc on whoever will have 'em. (Will never happen but would be so cool to see OU play USC, and A&M Michigan State, Texas Florida St., OSU OSU on a consistent basis.)

The Big 12 is losing its championship game because the NCAA requires a FBS conference to have at least twelve members to have a football championship game. Also, confetti did not fall from the rafters; it was shot into the air from the field next to the stadium. And while I thoroughly enjoyed the 2000 Big 12 game, I certainly think that the players enjoyed the Orange Bowl win more. This was an entirely valueless article, complete with falsehoods and poor conjecture.

As with the earlier comments, I agree as well. It is a shame to see the Big 12 withering away. When Colorado and Nebraska decided to leave for other conferences, the commissioner should have gone to work to find teams to replace them. TCU would have been a fantastic choice and should have been courted to join the conference. Instead they head to the Big East. I am one who does believe that Louisville would be a good choice to join the conference, although a bit distant in geographic settings.
With schools such as Arkansas and Arizona too deeply embedded with their conferences, expansion back to 12 teams may need to come outside the FBS. If that is the case, would the Big 12 seriously consider teams such as Tulsa, Air Force, SMU or perhaps Houston to maintain 12 teams? If so, would this set back the Big 12? Maybe it just needs to seriously look at how things are ran in the PAC-10 and Big 10 and follow these models so that perhaps an Arkansas or Arizona or even Iowa would consider leaving for greener pastures they way Nebraska did. I don’t know the solution, but my point is, SOMETHING needs to be done here. Ideas MUST be entertained if there is any hope in saving the Big 12.
If this does not happen the downfall of the Big 12 will be due to imagination, forethought, teamwork and most importantly INACTION. Beebe, if you are not up to the task, leave and have someone else who does have a true passion for the survival of the conference come in and get it done.

Here's something to consider -- without a championship game our conference could have several good highly ranked teams in the top 10-15 at season's end (similar to the big 10 this season). For years Ohio State has been given a pass to the title game when they were ranked #1 or #2 early in the season, if you don't have to put it on the line in a conf championship game why should you?

I don't think the conference needs to realign, they need to shuffle the schedule and figure out which teams they feel will be the consistent contenders for the title and schedule that game at the end of the season. For years in the Big 8 OU/Nebraska was the last game of the season because of this. If that means that OU/Texas is played Dec 4, so be it. Or if that means that OSU/A&M is played thanksgiving so be it. Tradition is fine and has a place, but now it's all about money amd making new traditions.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't want my conference race determined by the OU/Texas game first week of October. Whichever team loses has to hope that the winner loses two other games. I think that sucks.

I agree, Berry. Beebe and the Big12 office is doing nothing but allowing Big12 to whither on the vine. Pac10 adds teams so they can have a championship. Big10 adds Nebraska so they can have a championship. Same old stuff from Beebe. Never out in front leading. Always reacting and content to be the lap dog of a certain Big12 school...and then spinning about how wonderful everything will be, promising big money to members schools before the money is even in the bank. I give the conference 5 years at best.

Berry, I agree.

Extend Bebee's contract??? Why did this happen? Where is the outrage?

Bebee has been nothing BUT reactive. We need someone with a vision of the future that will position the Big 12 as at least an equal among other conferences. We need LEADERSHIP.

NOT someone that is happy to have his job and will go along the path of least resistance... that is, until the conference fades into the sunset.

Am I missing something? Did the Big 12 expell Nebraska or did they walk away from the conference on their own? To invite some commuter school like Louisville just to keep the conference game alive is not the answer. If you can get two quality schools such as Notre Dame and BYU to join then you have something. Until then, I think the 10 school model is the way to go.
