Big Ten loads up schedule on Nebraska
Nebraska’s 2011 Big Ten schedule is out, and the Cornhuskers have a beast of a schedule.
The Big Ten’s format is an eight-game conference schedule (eventually it will be nine), with each team playing every team in its division, plus an annual opponent from the other division. Michigan and Ohio State are in separate divisions and will play annually, so to be equitable, the Big Ten made the other two traditional powers, Penn State and Nebraska, annual opponents.
In Nebraska’s division is Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa. That means the Huskers will play Michigan and Penn State every year, and eventually Ohio State 60 percent of the time.
And Nebraska gets the Buckeyes in 2011 and 2012. In 2011, the Huskers will play at Wisconsin, then host Ohio State, at Minnesota, home games against Michigan State and Northwestern, then at Penn State, at Michigan and home against Iowa. In 2012, the sites will be reversed.
In its first two years in the Big Ten, Nebraska will miss Indiana, Illinois and Purdue, three of the weaker teams in the league.
This is the last year of a creampuff schedule for Nebraska. The Cornhuskers play at Washington, which is a solid game, but otherwise host Western Kentucky, Idaho and South Dakota State.
In 2011, Nebraska is scheduled to host Fresno State and Washington. In 2012, it’s Southern Miss and at UCLA. In 2013, it’s Wyoming, UCLA and at Southern Miss. In 2014, it’s at Fresno State and hosting Miami. In 2015, it’s at Miami and hosting Southern Miss. In 2016, it’s Fresno State, Tennessee and Wyoming. In 2017, at Tennessee.
So stick those non-conference schedules with the Huskers’ Big Ten schedule, and it’s not going to be easy to reach 10 wins a year, even if Bo Pelini does resurrect the Husker program.
Doesn’t bode well for those of us who would like to see OU and Nebraska renew their series, this time in a non-conference format.

I wouldn’t say creampuff but they’ve generally been of the the mindset of one game against a traditional power from a BCS conference, one game against a bad BCS conference team or a pretty good non BCS team and two games against teams that are going to get a paycheck.
So, they traded OK & TX every year for Michigan (which will eventually return) and Penn State EVERY year–plus Ohio State 60% of the time. HA HA HA HA! Revenue sharing has its’ price.

Cream Puff Schedules? HAHA I live in Nebraska, and know for a FACT that no one was (had been) willing to play us. We took the teams that would come in for the money, honey. You outta look into things a bit deeper before you start talking. Wow…
I’m confused……OU has what kind of schedule? Tulsa? Middle Tennessee? Bowling Green? You were posers in 2008 (nice 3 way tie for the South title) – nice loss to the Gators by the way. I would think y’all would be happy considering with only 10 teams you won’t have to play in a conference championship anymore (yes, that was you and Texas whining the loudest about how the extra game could affect your ability to play in a National Championship). Creampuffs? Whatever. Good riddance. Go Big Red. We are taking the 2010 Big XII Championship trophy with us and going to go play with teams that don’t bitch, whine and groan incessantly.
potted meat you are probably an iowa fan who has 1 ten win season last year, which is our avg. season at NU, and think iowa is great. watch out iowa your gonna get spanked every year now. we spanked everyone in the big ten, every time we played a big ten team. NU is the most winningest team in the country since 1970 check the facts before you run your mouth clown.
for anyone who says Nebraska is known for creampuff schedules…
It is WIDELY known that Nebraska tries to bring in powerhouse teams… year in and year out, a top contender declines to schedule a home and home with the Huskers… Props for VTech for actually doing it… MAYBE YOUR AD’S AND COACHES WILL ACTUALLY SIGN OFF ON A HOME AND HOME WITH NEBRASKA INSTEAD OF DECLINING… LOOK AT MOSTY TEAMS THEY PLAY LARGE CONFERENCE OPPONENT, AND 3 SMALL CONFERENCE OPPONENTS.. mOST OTHER POWERHOUSES DO THE SAME THING…
your right berry, our creampuff schedule had ou last year and beat them, and will beat them again this year that is if the creampuff sooners can make the big 12 title game

Nebraska has always been known for a creampuff schedule. I think this is hilarious…
