Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe, speaking today during the league’s football media days, said the new-look Big 12 (with 10 teams) shouldn’t affect the OU-Texas game.

Beebe said the conference likely will move a regular-season game or two to the first Saturday of December to fill the void of the lost conference championship game. But he said OU-Texas shouldn’t be one of them.

Beebe said one of the duties of a conference is to protect a league’s traditions, and he said OU-Texas played in October during the Texas State Fair is a tradition not to be trifled with.

Good. At least some things will remain….

OU-Nebraska each year was also a tradition; one that got pushed to the side when the Big 8 became the Big XII.

If Nebraska doesn’t want a regular OU/Neb game on Thanksgiving, maybe we can schedule them often. It is a great tradition and I am sure Nebraska knows that.

I love the atmosphere of the TX/OU game. But I’ve always thought it was an unfair advantage to both schools every year. Part of the magic of college football is home field advantage. If you are really a top 5 team on any given year you should be able to go into somebody’s house and win the game. Why is it fair for a school that is having a good year like Ok St. or Tech to have to travel into Austin or Norman to continue a win streak, but UT an OU are not forced to face the enemy on their turf and win? I think half the reason people love this game is it levels the playing field and makes it harder for the lower tier teams in the conf to come out with wins in an away series. TX and OU do not have to worry about that every year. I know it generates money but its a joke.

The State Fair and OU Texas in the Cotton Bowl is a great atmosphere…..if you could get rid of the Texas fans.

[...] Don’t mess with the game. [...]
