Baylor coach Art Briles said quarterback Robert Griffin physically is right on schedule to return to his former sensational self.

Instinctively? Won’t know until Sept. 4 against Sam Houston State. “We’ll see how he responds instinctively,” Briles said. “From a physical standpoint, he’s in really good shape.”

Briles said Griffin weighs 217 pounds, which is nine pounds heavier than a year ago, “which I like,” Briles said.

Briles said when someone faces a calamity, they do one of two things. “They pout, complain, sulk, cry,” Briles said. “Fall into a shell. Or you fight, you grind, you work harder than you ever have in your life.”

Briles said Griffin is the latter.

“Robert has that competitive spirit that leads him in the right direction,” Briles said.
