OSU, should never consider playing A&M in Dallas or anywhere else but BPS or Kyle Field. The issue is not conference games but now -non-conference games. Consider OU and Texas. In the new league, if they play 9 conference games that leaves 3 non-conference games. Both the Sooners and Longhorns want 7 home games. Since the Red River Rivalry is a neutral site game each team will have 4 home and 4 away games. The Sooners who schedule tougher teams and have future dates vs the likes of LSU, Notre Dame and Florida St among others will have difficulty playing 3 home non-conference games. What have we learned about the past month -it's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Texas on the other hand, who is hot and cold on their schedule....sometimes 4 creampuffs and then a home-and-home vs Ohio St. Not sure what they will do. If I were scheduling for OSU I would have 3 home non-conf games when OSU plays 4 home conf games and schedule 2 home non-conf when they play 5 home conf games, ensuring 7 home games a year.

Your today's column and overall attitude about the Big 12 is flawed. What makes you think OU OSU would be better off in Pac-10 except for your own fantasies? As you acknowldedge the bottom line is the almighty dollar. Should OU fall upon hard times in football and if OSU becomes less competitve and TV attractive, do you think there would be any loyalty from Stanford, USC, UCLA et al? They'd dump the aliens first chance they had. Ever since OKC has gotten a major league franchise, you seem to think the world starts and stops with OKC and Dallas. I love both cities, but there is more to the world...What is wrong with the Big 12 and you might agree with this, is that Texas rules. No one else really matters. We'd be much better off in the long term if Texas left and Nebraska stayed, even with the Longhorn's draw on TV ratings.

Does Texas A&M think it's better for their short term and/or long term program success to move to the SEC?

Granted the SEC seems to have made no indication about adding an odd numbered 13th team but even if the SEC would take A&M I don't get how that's good for A&M.

Maybe the Aggies are tired of being in the shadows of UT and think a little variety would do them good.

If they became the SEC school that got the lions share of Texas recruits maybe they could surprise some people but considering how tough the SEC is I don't see how joining the conference could give them much confidence in increasing the number of winning seasons they produce.

Why would you spend $165 million on a state of the art stadium then turn around a give up home games to play in the Cotton Bowl?

The facilities bring in recruits and dollars, a neutral-site game for these teams would not help them in the long-run. You do that when you have sub-par facilities and are trying to hie them from recruits.

Pete, I totally agree with you. I'm an OU homer but I was rooting for A&M to stick it to us all and move to the SEC. I truly believe it would help them in recruiting. When OU says to a recruit "Come play for us and you will get to play Iowa St. every year" A&M would have been able to say "Come play for us and you get to play schools like: LSU, Florida, Alabama..." Hmmmm

For Matt: Yes, A&M already plays Arkansas in Cowboy Stadium once a year. And to Randall: I think you hit the nail on the head. Lets all pay awmage to Texas. I am a proud Aggie and yet I wish we has gone ahead and gone to the SEC. Our program would have had to get better or die trying and we would then be open to a huge recruting base of great talent. Yes, I would hate to see all the tradition die. But I am so sick of being the ugly stepchild to Texas and them controling everything we think say and do. WE are NOT Texas Jr. Collage. We are a major University who needs to grow some cahones ( Balls ) for the non-Texans, And be our own beings. Sure we would have gotten our butts whipped in the SEC for a couple of years. But we would grow. and we would be our own school, NOT Texas Jr. Collage or the little Texas school in Collage Station. It's embarassing to have to admit that we have no mind of our own and not enough guts to go out on our own. You still want to play Texas every year at Christmas, fine, just put it on the schedule every year and that would work for me. After all, I would certainly hate to see all of the traditions kicked to the curb. Another season in the "No Balls" 10 conference.
